DUNCAN SIGNS CONTRACT
Altrincham's 18 year-old forward, Duncan Watmore (right, seen against Hyde), has signed a contract at Moss Lane until the end of the 2012-13 season. Duncan, a graduate of George Heslop's Youth team at Moss Lane, made his first-team debut as a substitute in the FA Trophy game against FC United on 27 November 2011. He was first named in a league squad at Hinckley in January, 2012 and later that month gained some further match experience with Clitheroe FC, before making his league debut as a substitute at Gainsborough on 28 January, 2012. To date, Duncan has made eight appearances for the first team from the bench, but has yet to make a start.
As well as at Altrincham FC, Duncan was a junior at Manchester United and has impressed for the Cheshire County side and for his college, Cheadle Hulme School.
Excellent news in my eyes, can we have the same for Adam Reid and Matt Fearon as well now?
-
Great news this. The lad looks to have a good future in the game and will surely improve.
-
best news of the week for Alty FC.
Good one.
Best of luck Duncan.
-
Good news.... Now damien to follow suit please?
-
Great news, let's give him some more game time now so he will develop for next season
-
Brilliant news, an absolute raw diamond of a player who is only going to improve.
-
For me this proves what a good job George continues to do finding talent through the Youth Team route
Also I wonder how many players we have missed out on over the past few years by seemingly discounting/ignoring the Youth Team players in terms of potential for the first team
-
Top news, good luck Duncan

I am confused by this.
Duncan clearly has talent, and we have secured his future will Alty for 12 months or so.
What I dont understand is why it is only a one year contract.
Essentially this puts him in the shop window for 12 months and he is then free to walk. If he really impresses and gets an offer at the end of the season we get nothing for him.
having said this I am delighted we have him for at least 12 months.
-
Superb news. Not only is it great that George is bringing through quality players, it's also brilliant that Lee Sinnott is prepared to give him the chance to prove himself in the first team.

There's nothing to stop the club offering him an improved contract before the current one expires. We've learned the lesson of two year contracts by now I would think !

If someone poaches him next season then since h's been with us 2 seasons they will have to give us compensation, I think.
Correct me if I'm wrong anyone?
-
Correct in part, being under 24 we have first refusal to offer all contract players in that age range the same or improved terms ahead of anyone else, all clubs get a contract extension option to go some way to protect assets they have developed.
-
Great news and I'm glad we're developing youth players
the work George does is incredible considering the limited resources he has.
I do think being in the BSN has given us the chance to use youth players, and I don't think they'd have been able to step up to BSP standard straight away
I hope Fearon gets offered a deal, along with Reid -

Alas, that statement is so true.
Senility; dozing off repeatedly whilst watching Countdown; the inability to find a sponsor for his mobile commode and an escalating addiction to Werther's Originals are all beginning to take their inevitable toll on the moustachioed Mourinho.
In Heslop We Trust.
-
A step in the right direction by the club, well done everyone involved.
-
Heslop for manager and Small for asssitant great news this :)
-
Best news for ages , well done Lee Sinnot

A lot.

excellent news.
I'd have been more than happy if this season had been spent blooding more promising youngsters like Duncan as it shows a vision for the future.
-
Good news - I presume it means that wherever he may be going further education-wise won't be far from here ... It would be nice to think there were similar moves lined up for other young players.
