Altrincham FC First Team / Newport County promoted
« on: March 15, 2010, 11:35:24 PM »
A 2-0 win at home to Havant infront of 4,221 see's them crowned BSS champions. 2 key questions

1. How fiendish will they actually be?
2. Will Dean Holdsworth be just as bad as his brother? (not putting him in same bracket as ex-pro Saunders,as he seems to have a clue about football at this level)

Have a friend who lives down there, so a nice weekend there for me

Altrincham FC First Team / Positives of this season

Extract of a convo I had with Cymru Alty

this is no lie....2 kids on the coach on the way to eastbourne were 2 kids who play for alty juniors...at the grays game i went to get a brew and at top of chequers i heard 'oi nasher'....it was them

If the kids from Alty Juniors are going to a game like that, I know we are going in the right direction!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Dean Saunders does it again

Heres a good idea Dean....stop signing shocking players and make your good players play like they did at Moss Lane on a consistent basis....then maybe Wrexham can claim a place back in the Football League.

Which also brings me to another point I was talking about with a Chester and Bury fan at work today....if we ever got promoted, would we need to go full time to survive and compete? Personally I don't think so, we have spent 5 seasons now in what is largely a full time league and shown we are capable to compete (even in the '3rd' relegation when we were poor,we got some decent results against bigger name sides), and I believe the standard of League 2 isn't much better than BSP,if at all.

You look at the fixtures, and you have to say each one is at least winnable, if not expect 3 points

Crawley (A) Probably most difficult game, but would be good to get a win to laugh at Evans comments after
Eastbourne (H) Should be 3 points
Eastbourne (A) Were unlucky there last year. Personally would be happy with a point, but think we can get all 3
Gateshead (A) As shown at Mansfield, are no mugs, and we should had lost at Moss Lane. But we are away.
Grays (H) 3 points,nothing less

With the home game with Eastbourne and Gateshead being our games in hand, it could be an interesting month.

As the Alty way will be though, we will get right upto 6th, then have our usual poor run we have in March!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Why you have to love John Laidlar

From offical site

A few Conference clubs may be looking over their shoulders
as This is Nottingham reports that "Forest loanee Nicky Shorey could be in trouble with FIFA because he has played for three clubs this season. The world body are unhappy that English football continues to provide a loophole to avoid their transfer rules, which state that players can represent a maximum of two clubs in one season. The former England full back played for Fulham against Portsmouth on Wednesday after signing on loan from Aston Villa, following an earlier nine-game spell at Nottingham Forest. But Shorey and Fulham are backed by the FA, the Premier League and the Football League, all of whom classify his time at Forest as an emergency loan".

I wonder who/what that refers to  ::) ::)

Altrincham FC First Team / Boswell!!!
« on: January 04, 2010, 11:31:58 PM »
Just came across this little gem I forgot about  ;D ::)

The NL Paper's betting expert Gary Boswell says of today's play off against Eastbourne Borough, "I think Alty are lucky to be in with a chance of a return to the Conference top-flight and today is perhaps the day when that luck runs out".

Altrincham FC First Team / New Rocky Robin
« on: November 14, 2009, 02:16:46 AM »
I have been informed that yesterday (Saturday as I type) that the new Rocky Robin costume has arrived at Moss Lane, and will be making its debut at the game.

May I personally thank TASC who have paid for the the costume, and will hopefully get Rocky sponsored. These costumes don't come cheaply (for example, Fred the Red at United gets a new outfit at £3,000 per season), but I believe Rocky is due a makeover (as far as I am aware, the current outfit made it's debut at Preston 97).

I hope the new look will help in developing the links the community in that the club will have a mascot that looks like a robin rather than a chicken/duck haha

« on: June 14, 2009, 08:56:51 PM »
Although this is the Conference,so could be end of July. Hope we get one of the stupid crap away games like Crawley on 15th August,as I shall be away in Edinburgh. Also be nice to end the season at home hopefully celebrating another midtable finish.

Altrincham FC First Team / FAO Weymouth and Halifax
« on: April 25, 2008, 06:47:16 PM »
PLEASE ROLL OVER TOMORROW!!!!

If Halifax believe that HMRC won't agree, then I would rather go down now rather than stay up, then have it cruelly taken away. Plus it saves us having to be reprieved again.

Weymouth not as much, as I think our lads will have the fight within them to win. If Stevenage do pull something off, it will mean nothing if we don't win.

Anyone see Peter Taylors comments on the game? "We owe it to Altrincham and ourselves to put out our strongest available side". Hopefully that strongest side will do itself justice.

COME ON YOU RED AND WHITE BASTARDS!!!!!!!

...in my 15 years of coming to Moss Lane, I don't I have seen a worse performance by a ref, even during the Unibond days!!!

Joe's yellow cards came after Stevens had pushed him for about the 3rd time (the 1st one should had been a pen),previously pushing Little. The 2nd one Joe did not even touch the player and he went down like a sack of spuds. The 2nd goal was a country mile offside from where I was. You could argue he played into Crawleys hands by letting all this happen before we got frustated.

Which is part of are failings tonight. No matter how crap the ref was,we played right into how Crawley wanted it to be. It was a team that was quite clearly managed by such a horrible bastard like Evans. Our failure to play on after he didn't give offside was naive, and we didn't turn our pressure prior to the sending off into something.

Just got to move on and get a result at Grays. And since Aldershot have now won the league, perhaps they could give us 3 points next week.

Altrincham FC First Team / Senior - The New Thornley??
« on: November 21, 2007, 10:43:30 PM »
Just got thinking then about the number of similarities these 2 have.

Both are pacy forwards (well,Rod was prior to injuries)
Both always seem to smile throughout games
Both are/were committed to the club, hence why both are well liked by fans
I mean,Chris is even going down the same route careerwise as Rod

Maybe this was why Heathcote released Rod, thinking we had a better version of him!!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Val Owen
« on: October 30, 2007, 03:12:29 PM »
Please God, let Val be fit for Saturday and Millwall. We have missed him a lot over these last few games, and Kendal would had been the perfect game for him. If he is fit for either game, we will have a good chance of draws.
