Altrincham FC First Team / My 2 Pennies Worth
« on: September 29, 2013, 07:30:16 PM »
Not been on here since before the game for various reasons, mainly as I have been with family, but my thoughts on yesterday:

To me, we didn't lose due to lack of passion. It seems everytime we lose to inferior opposition, on paper, that we lost because the players didn't have the heart. Nope, we lost because we played utter sh*te, and a lot of players should had look at themselves last night and said 'I can,and will, play better than that.'

The line up; while personally I believe Reeves should had started ahead of Perry, I don't have any qualms. That starting 11 should had beaten Trafford. Too many players had off days. There was no outlet for the strikers as Clee and Smikle were not providing anything. We have not looked the same at the back without Williams. Unfortunately, I have a feeling we were waiting until this week to get a replacement as we should have had an extra £4,500 in the budget...now that's not there. Which brings me to my next point.

People asking where last seasons cup money and Watmore money has gone. I can't really comment on the Watmore case, as I don't have an answer, and don't know for sure how much we got up front from Sunderland. However, I do remember that last season we were able to bolster the squad in the 2nd half of the season due to the cup money (Moult, Boshell). This may not account for all of it, but at least some.

I get so frustrated with some of our fans sometimes (not people I know, but faces I know). One having a right go at Moult for taking a shot from 25 yards that went wide 'Why shoot from there, you can't score from there!!' Erm, Brackley?? Another moaning about lumping it up to Luca in 90th minute. Yes, I know it's not pretty, but 1-2 down away in the cup, we have to lump it in. I seem to remember Burton having to hoof up at 2-3 down, and we know what happened there.

The saving grace is due to the City and United results, this will be swept under the carpet by people who take the Michael out of me supporting Alty.

Yesterday was completely unacceptable, and all the players can do now is knuckle down, work hard and get 3 points against Guiseley, and get promoted.

Altrincham FC First Team / Gloucester line up/predictions
« on: September 22, 2013, 10:21:22 PM »
Walshaw in for Perry will be the only change barring injuries, assuming Boshell won't be fit too.

4-0 victory though, and I thought this before the game yesterday. Reeves with a brace, Clee and Walshaw. Everyone bar a few go home happy, the unhappy ones saying we should had won by more. Attendance 707

Altrincham FC First Team / A question I can now ask
« on: May 05, 2013, 09:11:39 AM »
I didn't want to tempt fate by asking this before we'd had played Halifax at Moss Lane in the final :(

One undoubted positive this season,or in 2013, is the return of 'Fortress Moss Lane', with 13 wins and 1 draw from 14. Is this one of the longest unbeaten home run we've had? Obviously the 91 season run is about this mark, but did we accrue more points?

I know a few other Alty fans are doing this too.

Dryathlon is the event for January where you don't drink any alcohol for Cancer Research UK. I have decided to do it, also as part of a health kick. If you would like to/ could sponsor me, link is below.

Many Thanks

Fleetwood sack Micky Mellon, 8 months after getting them to the Football League and lying in the League 2 play-off places in their first ever season. Utter madness!!!

In my 18 years of supporting the club, I have never seen it a fitter state off it.

My cousins daughter, who was mascot at the Blyth game last season, went to the Easter fun week, and has begged her mum to get on the below. Times like that make you proud to be part of this club.

A friend of mine is running a half marathon on Sunday in aid of Sport Relief. He is starting at Moss Lane and passing Old Trafford before finishing at Eastlands. If anyone could sponsor, that would be great.

Thanks

Just read that the deadline for loans is tomorrow. I know we can make signings whenever, but is that the same for loans?

Altrincham FC First Team / Rocky Robin in Manchester this evening
« on: July 08, 2011, 09:50:41 PM »
A good PR exercise was taken before at the Cube gallery on Portland Street, for the opening of an exhibition based on football. A lot of people asked about the club, some had photos taken with Rocky, and a group of City fans decided they would come to Moss Lane for the game next week. There should hopefully be photos in MEN and the Cube website in next few days.

I'd like to thank the people at the Cube for their hospitality, Kit, Jane and Paul, who actually came down to Moss Lane to collect Rocky for me whilst I was at work.

The exhibition is of cig packets that have been made into football strips. It is quite interesting, and would recommend visiting it if you are in town. It runs until 20th August

Altrincham FC First Team / Shotton to return to Moss Lane?

Unfortunately, not in red and white. Transfer section of todays paper says Burnley have enquired about taking him on loan for the season.

Where do we begin...

Where did this seasons problems grow? Seeing the first pre season? After a promising game at Luton, letting a 2-0 lead slip at home to Darlington? Failing to build on a few good results by not turning up at Histon? The abject cup defeats to Gateshead and Blyth? The failure to beat Southport and Cambridge after a supurb win at Darlington? The failure to turn up when it mattered at FGR, Newport and Eastbourne?

As Cult said on another thread, yesterday summed up our season in 1 game....the first half was 2010, the 2nd half mid Jan to March 2011, with the last 5 minutes being April with too many individual mistakes!1

And so we find ourselves back at square 1 in BSN. But where do we go? Based on the assumption that Ken and Bimmo will not be here next season, a lot of players will have to wait and see. Personally, finances permitting, I would like to keep Stu, Brown and Reeves, and Joseph. Densmore I would also love to keep, and being at uni he might stay. Denham would be a focal point of my team season, but must prove his fitness. Whoever we keep, we must make them the spine of this team, as with BSP experience it will help us. Bring in a few of the youngsters, coupled with some proven BSN players, and we should have a competitive side there.

I am under no illusions of the task  ahead of us. I would be happy challenging for the play offs. But the club must make the right noises to people, saying we are going to be competitive and aiming to get back up at the first attempt. You will have your Telfords, Nuneatons etc, but they cannot buy the history that Altrincham already has, and playing for this club should be the greatest honour any semi pro footballers should have. And we cannot moan saying the budget will only be 3-4k compared to what we have had in other years. Remember, we won the play-offs with a budget of £3,500...money means nothing on the pitch if your players want it.

Altrincham FC First Team / Bouncebackability Factor
« on: April 10, 2011, 11:15:52 AM »
As Ecky said on another thread, its how Kenny and Bimmo can pick them up that will decide whether we stay up. OK, yesterday was awful and yet again, we didn't turn up for the 6 pointer. But here we are, still only 2 points from safety, with the mindset of we can get points from the remaining 4 games if we play to potential. Go back 30 games, and I would snap your hand off at being in this situation.

There are players who I have opinions of that shouldn't be playing for us next season, and not just the obvious choices. But they are still Altrincham players until 30th April, so until then I will back them to the hilt. On 1st May, we can talk about how crap so and so is for 3 whole months.

Don't think we are down just yet, no matter how depressing the table looks. The table looked very tight last week, and it can look tight again next week if the results go right.

Whatever happens,it will go to the last day (whether we need results to go our way is another thing), and I will be crapping myself all day.
