How did Stu play in an outfield role last night? Is he any good?
-
Could we play him at left back?

;D
-
make a good centre half,i dont think i would like to argue with him,lol
-
As I recall Stu played as an outfield sub in a 6-0 victory years ago - against dagenham i think, how times have changed
-
Stuart is very annoyingly a good outfield player....

It was against Emley when we beat them 7-1 in April 1998.

The Messenger report of that game, which was reprinted in Grahame & Terry Rowley's book "The Unibond Years", states that Coburn was an unused substitute - is that correct then?

Coburn definitely came on in that game.
-
Coburn defo came on.
He was begging to come on to take a free kick on the edge of the box at 7-1 up. He took it and it hit the wall.

Bloody Mike Crockett's dodgy journalism!
I couldn't attend that Emley game back in 1998.
Of all the league games to miss in a pretty forgettable season!

I had to leave at half time to go to hospital with a bad ankle and missed the last 5 goals. Needless to say I was delighted.

Well, if the rest of Mike Crockett's report can be believed (!), the Alty team that afternoon was:
Matt Dickins
George Shepherd
Danny Adams
Paul France
Andy Brown (who was in The Railway pub in Hale last weekend watching the Weymouth v Alty match on Setanta, incidentally)
Jamie Taylor
Sammy Harris
Martin Faulkner
Nathan Comley-Excell
Ricky Harris
Keith Russell
Subs:
Stuart Coburn
Tony Kelly
Matt McNeil
-
If my memory serves me correctly i think Keith Russell and Nathan Comley Excell both hit hat tricks in this match.
-
As I tried to catch him last night he is fast and skillfull outfield, but do we not need him in goals?
-
Similar to me then, good in goals, however got a good touch as an outfielder. Unfortunately we dont have a Richard Acton on our team...
-
He was very useful took his goal well but he is needed in goal . Dont know if he would look that good against lets say Aldershot for example

Re arrange the phrase 'trumpet your own blow'

Does anybody else remember Jamie Taylor? He was a really good little midfielder. I think we'd got him from Rochdale. He played dead well for us that season but iirc he got a bit arsey and billy big time and decided to leave Alty to further his career/get back in the football league.
It is not known whether he ever played at as high a level as the Unibond again!

Ballers,
Jamie Taylor was the 1997/98 Alty Player Of The Year.
Didn't he end up at Bangor City for some strange reason?
