... has passed away.   See official site.  A great shame.

He was a brilliant strike partner for Jackie Swindells - the two of them honoured at Moss Lane relatively recently.

A good no-nonsense old-fashioned centre forward. Once sat with my then fiancee and I in the Red Robin Club, and was tremendously good company. Apologised to her half a dozen times for swearing, but she didn't really mind ! Very sad to hear of his passing.

Really sad news to hear of the death of Johnny Worth - I was privileged to watch him alongside Jackie Swindells and the rest of the lads back in the 60's

It was also really great to meet him again along with Jackie a few years back when we played Kidderminster....

RIP Johnny

How sad.  He was playing around the time I started going in the early 70s. Remember him and Tony Broadhead up front. RIP Johnny.

Condolences to his family. I only knew Johnny by reputation - before my time - but it is always sad to hear about the loss of one of the greats.

Very sad news. I first saw Johnny play for Rusholme in the Lancs Amateur Cup Final at Old Trafford in 1963 and he was very much a part of my early experiences at Moss Lane in the late 60s and early 70s. Condolences to his family - may he rest in peace.

Johnny always seemed to get a little 'overlooked' as he was about in the 'Swindells' era of the club but he was a fantastic player for us. Loads of one-touch skill, could put himself about a bit when needed, and a real eye for the back of the net. He and Jackie contributed greatly to my experiences as an Alty fan in my teens. It's characters like JW (and there have been a succession of them over the years) that cemented by love of the club.
