Altrincham FC Co-Chairman Bill Waterson writes:
A further review of our procedures and safety standards sees the capacity for tonight's Emirates FA Cup first round replay with Gateshead set at 1,390. The game is now sold out as we have reached this capacity. There will be no tickets available on the night at the ground.
The ground will be configured as follows for this game; Main Stand capacity 480, Chequers End 640 and Community Sports Hall terrace 170, while the Family Stand will accommodate Gateshead supporters up to overall capacity. The Golf Road and the Popular Side will be closed to spectators tonight.
Access to the Chequers End terrace will be through the turnstiles at that end of the ground. Access to the Main Stand and the CSH terrace will be through the Golf Road turnstiles. Access to the Family Stand will be though the turnstiles to the right of the Main Stand. Disabled access will be through Gate 4 as per usual.
Given the escalation in security levels following the terrorist attack in Liverpool over the weekend, your bags will be searched on entry to the stadium this evening.
You may also be subject to a personal search on arrival. Please bear this in mind when arriving at the ground and turn up early. Please leave bags at home if you can. There will be frequent messages over the public address system, so please pay attention to those.
Turnstiles will be open from 6.30pm.

Joke

I can't believe that I am thinking this, but perhaps we are even lucky that they have not condemned the entire stadium and closed us down. Perhaps they might throw us out at half time.
-
If I didn't know better I'd suspect someone in the council really doesn't like us one little bit.
I asked a few days ago whether anyone knew what the real agenda was with all this but no one enlightened me. Does anyone know?
I mean I recognise the ground is a bit rundown but this all seems out of the blue and, not to put too fine a point on it, pretty insensitive and vindictive. There's just got to be more to this than meets the eye.
Or am I being paranoid?
-
With the recent (greatly appreciated) openness of The Board, I hope that tomorrow, we get a full account on why , on the day of our most pivotal game in years, we have to reduce the capacity to half of what we have been getting? All the hard work that has been done over the last couple of years seems to be falling apart at the seams, let's hope we do the job on the pitch and hope things improve very quickly!!!
-
Am I being stupid.. I thought the capacity tonight was set at over 2000 and we had sold out. How does the new lower figure work then?

I assume Trafford on Monday had a meeting with the club and advised to stop further sales..
-
How can areas of the ground that safely houses hundreds on Saturday after an inspection by the same people now not hold any? Someone is taking the piss
-
Win tonight and find a different venuefor
Charlton game?

I think we have to close the ground asap and find another ground share . Or commence works in the 2 main affected areas and live with the new capacity

I take it the Trafford Council official who only recently set the capacity at 6,000 has been sacked for gross incompetence. No ? Well what a f**king surprise !
-
Surely we've got to be looking at somewhere like the AJ Bell Stadium short term if the cost is viable - at least they can get 12,000 in there.
-
And we've just got a new pitch...

Sale Rugby Club holds just over 3300 would be another more local alternative if needs be. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that though.

Somebody has dropped an absolute bollock, heads should roll. Will they?

How long until the only usable parts of the ground are the Chequers end and the front of the sports hall are the only usable parts of the ground?? Its getting scandalous this. The ground was deemed safe last year for over 7000. WTF has changed? The council and whoever has made these decisions need to be held accountable here.
-
Should make Gateshead feel at home.

They absolutely do. In reality those have used the golf road have been put at unnecessary risk. Isn't this why we have stadia safety certificate inspections?
-
We need to use the JD to get the best advantage over Charlton.
How long would it take to make the improvements?

Keep playing like this and we won't be playing Charlton

Loads more than that there tonight

Someone’s written a letter to the council detailing all the inherent problems with the ground mate, that’s what’s changed. Someone put out by how well things had been going under a new leadership. That’s what’s happened.

Very very sad if this is the true and they need naming.
Fuming about it all tonight.
Proper doing our legs.
Just as the club starts getting momentum something always crops up.
-
It still leaves the question, what about previous ground inspections? What has changed? For me, there is nothing currently in the ground remotely as dangerous as that big trip hazard we used to have between the GRE and the Popular side where, so far as I can tell, the material between the two steps of the terrace had eroded away, and where at least one person has been injured. Where were the council then? Why was that alright, but now most of the ground has to close? They owe us answers.
-
I think there is more to it than that. The Chequers end isn't exactly billiard table smooth.
It's interesting that despite the annoyance of everyone on here the board haven't put out a statement as to what the nature of the work is that is required.
I can't understand why they have remained silent on the matter.

I don't mean to be the harbinger of doom but I suspect that the news could be very very bad and they are looking at all possible ways they might alleviate things before telling us. I fear for the future of our club and more so their future at Moss Lane.
-
You might well be right Condate Alty. Personally I think the Golf Road end needs the attention of a bulldozer but how would you do that without encroaching on the pitch?
It also raises questions with regards to access to loos from the Pop side.
-
If true they need naming asap and moss lane needs to be protected to the death!
-
Still don't understand how Trafford MBC found the ground fine for 6k fans before the start of the season....
And, if it was a local resident...WHY THE HELL DID THEY MOVE TO A HOUSE CLOSE TO A FOOTBALL GROUND FFS?

Not much steel left on the pop side, it's mostly rust! 😉
