I see a suggestion has been out forward to trial kick ins, instead of a throw.

I am 100% that 20/25 years ago the northern premier league trialled this in a league cup competition.

Can anybody confirm that please? There's no better place to go for this kind of info.

I can remember a league doing that, but I am not sure which one it was; the Isthmian League comes to mind, but memory and a Google search both fail me.

PSF away at Alton Royale in the early 90s. Never heard of them before or after, and no idea why we played them. It was somewhere around Birmingham I recall.

I was going to mention that one. The club were actually called Olton Royale, and they were one of the leading Sunday clubs around Birmingham. The link was that their manager lived next door to Jeff Wealands when the latter played for Birmingham City. They kept in touch when he moved north, and Olton challenged to us a game.  I am pretty sure we won, but can't remember the score (possibly 4-1?).

Although Olton is in Solihull, the club played some distance away at Baytree Farm, in the countryside south of Birmingham at Hockley Heath where they shared with West Heath United. It was a proper ground with  a stand, but was as rural as its name indicates, and am sure I can remember a playing have to climb over a wall to rescue the ball from a farmyard after a wayward shot!

Olton Royale later switched to Saturday football, joining the Midland Combination, where they reached as high as the Premier Division  (North West Counties Div 2 equivalent at the time, I think) before disappearing in 1996.

The youth keeper went to Salford. Not heard anything about his progress since then.

That's Joel Torrance. He has  appeared on the bench for the first team at Salford City several times, without actually making an appearance, but he has turned out for Colne on loan, just as Ryan Forde has done, by coincidence.

However, you have hit on something as their owner-chairman, Marc White,is also their manager, so there are certain similarities to Droylsden, although I think Marc White (who says he has other backers putting money into the club) may have more charm and money than Dave Pace.

I go back to 74/75 and can't properly remember Tony Broadhead playing for us, but do remember him returning as a Bangor City player a season or two later and getting more abuse than any other opposition player I had seen to that point.

I assume he went with Roy Rees to Bangor, but did he leave with particular bad feeling?

Just to add to that, even in 1979-80, when we won the inaugural Alliance Premier League, Mossley won 5-1 at Moss Lane in the Trophy.
Their form suddenly collapsed when, after several years of finishing 1st or 2nd, they were 22nd in 1983-84, and have never been the same since.
Did the supporters' coach get its windows put in at Mossley once?
