Great result, out of relegation places ,wierd weather......but the same old GH. If Alty had lost tonite serious consideration would have to have been given to his dismissal, not for the defeat but for his disgraceful conduct in the first half. True ,the grumpy old men at the back of the main stand did describe him as clueless and suggested the team spread out more ,but to turn his back on the pitch and tell those supporters to " Piss off" and then make violent threats to them is frankly unacceptable. Perhaps ,with what limited funds are available ,he could be sent on an anger management course. What pissed me off most was that for 2 minutes of the first half GH had his back turned to the action on the pitch in order to indulge his childish psychotic rants against paying supporters, when he is paid to concentrate onthe game and getting the required result which would have silenced the grumpy old sods who were being critical of him.

not sticking up for gh here but remember the golden rule......you cant expect anyone at a part time club to act profesional, maneger included
and if someone slagged me off for my formation i'd tell them were to go too ;D
-
It's generally accepted that anyone who sits in the stand at any ground where there is the option of standing knows very little about football.
-
Knowledge of football is irrelevant : the issue is whether it is proper for the manager of the worlds finest team to use abusive and threatening language against paying supporters and ignore his onfield duties. If you think that displays a lack of knowledge of football perhaps you were an active participant at the Heysel stadium some years back . Thuggery is thuggery whoever displays it ,even if it is the Altrincham manager. Incidentally , the only reason I was sat in the stand was I was with my 8 year old son and I thought it too cold for him to stand and he also had to listen to trhe rants of the 50something adolescent.
-

But I think you will find that Graham Heathcote is employed as the full-time manager of Altrincham FC.
-
true ian but he comes from this enviroment, it's all he knows, he's very grounded and i think certain people need to moan less and support more
-
Let's look at it another way:
If I came to your work and sat behind you telling you how you should be doing your job (remember I have no experience in how to do your job, but I've played for hours on a PC game like it) how would you respond? Granted GH should not be swearing at people, but I can understand why he reacts the way he does.
-
I was sat in the thick of all this and all that was shouted at the players was'Spread Out'.To turn your back on the game and have a rant at someone who supports the team, week in week out was wrong. To say that sitting down in the main stand you don't understand football is a load of tosh. I have been in the Golf Road since 1975 and have become a Dad who takes his son and his friends to matches and now prefer to sit down. Graham must learn to ignore happy/grumpy old men (depending on performance) as this is not the first time that tyhis has happened.
-
I won't judge, I wasn't there so I don't know exactly what was or wasn't said.
However, I suspect GH is getting very frustrated with some of the criticism hw gets as well, of course, with Alty's position in the league. He tells the team to play passing football and they hoof it instead, for instance.
Whether GH is right or wrong in this - its not for me to judge - I suspect the cause is his frustration and, I suspect, a certain degree of stress.
I just hope it does not alienate him from fans and gets him into trouble.
-
I have supported Alty since 1947 so don't say I know nothing about football because I sit in the stand.
There are certain voices from behind where I sit who do nothing but moan about what happens on the pitch, whether it is good bad or indifferent. They do nothing but criticize. I don't blame GH for his reaction. Maybe he should ignore it; but he is passionate about his team. If he wasn't then we would all have reason to complain. In fact I could not do what he does for the club and not react to such criticism. I would probably have been done for GBH by now.
Do we want a manager who sits in the dugout, says nothing to the players during the game and just sends on the subs: Or do we want passion and commitment? After all that is what many people have been asking for from the players recently and that has to start from the manager.
Rant over.
Well done last night to everyone apart from the muppet who wanted us to "spread out" and give the opposition mere space to play. Is this the same prat who constsntly wants the "keeper to come for it" even when he would have to be faster than Linford Christe to make it befor the oppsition attacker?

No one's said that he shouldn't be passionate or committed have they? Just that he should direct his tirades towards the players and not the paying public.
As for the 'muppet', I think has a point - we always play far too narrow. Does that warrant an attack on me by GH, don't be ridiculous.
You don't see Allardyce fighting it out with the crowd do you? GH needs to grow up and shut the f*ck up.
-
Maybe the crowds frustation could have been directed at the linesman who didn't seem to know the offside law.
-
Maybe the crowds frustation could have been directed at the linesman who didn't seem to know the offside law.
The new rule is "if the ball is played forward at the Chequers end then it's offside?"
-
why the f*ck was ther frustration in the first place? we won and we never looked like we were being out played by kiddy. spread it wide? is it just me or did playing narrow get us 3pts? if we had played more open i have no doubt that players of the quality of richards would have done us more damage.
now i do not condone heathcote's reaction to the comments but as said before we wouldn't apreciate someone coming to our place of work and telling us how to do our job. and it's not like these comments are coming in games when we are underpreforming there appears to be not let up in people shouting at the manager (last night we were playing some of the best football i've seen us play this year) yet the comment still come? now we all know heathcote is prone to these outbursts so i would say if you are going to shout critisim at him be prepared for his reaction, i know he should ignore it but if i came and stood behind you and costantly critcised everything you did with no let up are you saying you would turn round and tell me to shut up? anyway we had a good performace last night so let's focus on that !

either that or they have very short legs and cant see over the crush barriers.
Viewing football from the sides - now there is something that does not intrest me... get yourself behind a goal.
-
I saw GH gesturing at Alty fans during the Cambridge game earlier in the season. Now I've heard some people call this a 'display of passion' and I've heard others describe it as 'insulting to paying supporters'. Which ever view you take, surely to God, GH should be watching the bleeding game! Isn't that what he's paid for? It is at the end of the day a mater of professionalism. GH is trying his best, we all realise that, but he should keep his gob shut and watch the game. End of.
-
Remeber Kendal away in theFA Cup last year? He is very easily wound up and it WRONG behavour for a manager.
-
but he should keep his gob shut and watch the game. End of.
In that case then so should you.
He's entitled to his opinion as much as you are.
I dont think anyone would appreciated having their professional skills questioned in such a public forum, and if I was antagonised as much, i'm sure i'd react in much the same manner as GH.
You should all be ashamed of yourselves.
-
I have been critical of GH's behaviour and tactics but last night he got it spot on (in my opinion).

Think some are missing the point, a football manager is allot different to most jobs, part of the job is to represent and portrait a respectable image of the football club in unique conditions where by he is on show to hundreds/thousands of people each game. Hostile crowds, insults, opinions etc... are all common factors that every player and manager knows about. Graham is under pressure this season and we are all frustrated. Know one can doubt his passion and I am sure he never sets out to get in these confrontations but more restraint is needed especially when dealing with home supporters.
-
I have been critical of GH's behaviour and tactics but last night he got it spot on (in my opinion).
Well you beat me to it on this one. I was about to say the same thing. I only had two areas where I disagreed with GH last night.
1) He brought GS on and I though he was sitting back ready to defend - I was proved wrong, we still went forward and a good substitution.
2) I would have brought JO'N some 3 minutes earlier than he did.
I like to criticise when I feel it is due but praise when due as well.
Have to say SPOT ON GH, you got it right last night.
You have also made some good additions to the squad and I know one swallow doesnt make a summer, but we are looking like we have a good chance of survival if we can keep these players until the end of the season.
-
yes hostile crowds are to be expected but he gets the hostility at home games not away ones that must get under your skin if you have done as much for the club as GH has

Correct he is entitled to his opinion but he is also responsible for his own actions. Every fan has a right to be critical of the players performance or the way the team is playing. We pay to go and do this. Dont expect fans to celebrate and congratulate the manager when the team is doing well and not be allowed to say anything when the situation is reversed.
Every fan in that ground has the right to voice their opinions during the game whether we win in the end or not, and they will continue to do so.
If abuse is directed personally at GH that isn't football related then there is a difference.
GH is one of the clubs biggest ambassadors and I find it pathetic that every time the fans are on the teams backs he finds the time for these outbursts. Other managers are subjected to personal abuse week in week out and they rise above and conduct themselves in the right way. GH has every opportunity to defend himself in local media after the games, not halfway through a game in front of a load of kids.
This repetitive subject is in dire need of being settled.
I personally am ashamed that people seem to buy in to censorship so much these days.
'Nobody say anything critical it might just touch a nerve!'
PATHETIC!

-
Continual abuse from a section of fans, aimed at their OWN club, week in week out when another 300 people are within ear shot would get anyone down.
Personally I am sure GH would not turn roud to anyone for saying spread out and argue with them.
CAMELS STRAW BACK THE THAT BROKE THE - rearrange.
-
spot on jenga to me it does seam that there are some people who go to matches these days just to shout at heathcote. this has been a constant thing at home games this year since the first match ! thats why i prefer going to away matches, there no abuse directed towards the managment just encouragement directed towards the players
-
it was suggested tounge in cheek but isn't sending Graham on an anger management (or stress management) course a good idea. Anything that helps him cope better with the undoubted pressures of the job is good for the club in the long run.
-
The last 4 posts especially: all good stuff!

The reference to Heysel is part of a very poorly formed argument; the premises are not coherent.

How about bringing this to a close ? GH shouldn't have turned his back on the game to argue but I have no doubt that he will get us out of the S***.He is passionate, just look at his reaction after the Vics away game and if we keep positive so will he. Keep venting your opinions at home and away but lets keep them constructive.

I havent seen any posts from the alleged abusers of god... i mean GH. Who couldn't deal with it? I have heard no stories of the people on the end of GH's latest tongue-lashing leaving the ground or attempting any further assault (verbal or physical). I think you are missing the point here.
I have every faith in GH's ability to steer the club away from relegation this season. I have the upmost respect for his achievements at Alty and his passion for our beloved club. He will always be a legend in my eyes, end of.
However, legend does not equal faultless! This is a major problem for me and many others. I dont care if GH wants to give it back, he has a right, but the time and the place is not in the middle of a game in front of every alty fan young and old.
When he goes mad at the crowd he is doing exactly that: Going mad at the entire crowd, not just the bloke in the main stand. It just reflects as the manager having a go at the fans, nobody in particular. That leaves some of us feeling less than gratified.
This is not a new problem its been going on for seasons on end!
Anyway, the title of the thread makes sense to me, on all other accounts GH is perfect. Hope that satisfies the ego behind vvl ;)

he needs to cslm down or he will have a stroke

I was in the middle of the shouting last night
I rather regretably reacted to Graham turning on one of the guys I sit with.
The comment was "spread out" and it is a comment used frequently.
I have read some of the comments from this forum on whether we/I are able to comment on footbal and pass an opinion about it? football is all about opinions and I understand how hard it is and I now know how easy it is to become embroiled and for that I apologise.
However I do not agree with Graham turning around and making the comments he made although again we did fuel the fire.
For the record the tactics Graham uses are not unreasonable - Staying in the game is good, I am a great believer that we start with a point it is keeping it which is difficult and the way our defenders gave one away last night was poor and I too was glad to see the two goals that gave us the points.
Barry Heaton
NB.. I did post earlier but it failed for some reason either that or there will be 2 ramblings.
-
I would prefer this to a passionless manager who looked like he didn't care
on course for best finish since 96 stop the slaggin
-
For GH to turn around and say something to you, you must have really upset him. However, i dont have any sympathy for you in the slightest as last night he was really under pressure, as there was a possibliity that if thing didnt go well for us he would have been out of a job. Following on from this to critisise the managers efforts last night, quite frankly what are you playing at, if you hadnt noticed the conditions yesterday were terrible, the pitch was nearly waterlogged. So if im honest with you the tackics from GH last night were well suited to the conditions and the team we were up against. So please these so called fan's who critise the manager, either piss off next time or keep your mouth shut. If Alty sack Gh we will be in trouble as know-on will want to take over a part-time team in a full time league with very little funds avalible.

How is it?
GH knows the history behind the club, he's been a player and is now the manager, and he successfully got us promoted. Can you think of any manager currently out of work, who would really want to come hear, where there are hardly any funds to buy players in, so that we can stay up. If you ask me if any of the other manager in the conference who found them selfs in the position we are in, they would have packed their bags and walked months ago. However, GH knows the majority of fans are behind him so he has chossen to stay.
-
FFS, we are now seeing a bit of light at the end of the tunnel with regard to some potentially half decent loan signings coupled with moving out of relegation zone. Surely now is the time to put the bickering behind us and concentrate on getting behind GH with a view to staying in this league. Of courses theres a long way to go but for the first time this season Im feeling optimistic about staying up. Very impressed with G. Barrow coming in as assistant, this could be the shrewdest move of all.

One thing... why the hell were people criticising GH when it was 0-0 FFS?! Leave him alone and let him do his sodding job. He isn't going to be able to concentrate properly if he has pillocks behind him who call themselves alty fans and think they can do a better job than him! Get off grahams back and get supporting the team. And if you dont think you can hold yourself back from shouting 'advice' then go and stand in the sodding golf road end. We have taken 6 points from the last possible 9, good loan signings, the spirit we all want to see in the players for coming back from a goal down, and what sounds like a good new assistant. Things are looking up for one of the first times this season, so can we not just get on with what we are meant to be doing..supporting the team?
-
I think a certain amount of clarification is required here, at least this is how I see it:
GH has done brilliantly so far in bringing in the right players to turn our fortunes around and also in improving our performances. It is clear from what people have said about last night that the footballing side of things is finally starting to look good.
The only annoying thing is that week after week these petulant reactions to idiots in the crowd are making GH look rather silly and there is no need for it. Other managers deal with exactly the same kind of pressure week in, week out and I just wish ours could do the same.
Once again, congratulations are due to GH in no small amount for starting to turn things around. Just try to be a bit more professional in the way you conduct yourself - listening to the BBC Hereford & Worcester commentators chuckling about what happened was just a touch embarrassing and gives the club the wrong image.

It's ironic that this is the same manager who gave such good value on out televised game on Setanta

Totaly Agree. Lets forget what these so called alty fans who sit in the main stand, think about GH. He is doing a great job and at this time, the fans need to get behind the player, the manager and all other club officials, so that we stay out of relegation and get some more points with the loan signings we have been gifted with.

I think that to call people 'so called alty fans' because they happen to sit in the stand is disrespectful and unrealistic.
These people pay their money, either by way of a season ticket or on a match by match basis and are entitled to their view even if it is sometimes wrong.
Many of these people have been watching Alty for decades and have progressed from standing on the terrace to sitting, some for reasons of their health.

No i didn't mean it in that way because they sit in the stand, sorry if people did take that the wrong way
-
I have sat in the main stand or the last couple of games, generaly the Alty supporters get behid the team.
There is a lady that continually shouts the team down, such as you donkey tinno etc.
Whilst she has paid her money, it doesnt help the team.
The acoustics in there direct the sound to the front, which must annoy GH.
In the right position the view of the game is excellent and you can see where we are making the mistakes and the positive moves.

O Sod off it wasnt meant in that way fool, i was refering to the people who sit there all game and do nothing but moan about the manager and the players. It was not directed to be a disrespectful comment it was a way of getting a point across about the people who were slagging GH for no appatent reason, I quote in captials "NOT DIRRECTED AT ALL MAIN STAND FANs". I know some people in that particular area of Moss Lane have to sit down due to their age or health. When people like you come out and go all polically correct and say that type of comment its the reason why this country has gone down the S*itter, in the past decade!!

If Alty sack Gh we will be in trouble as know-on will want to take over a part-time team in a full time league with very little funds avalible.
Utter drivel.
OK, a hypothetical scenario:
Let's say that GH decides to leave his post at Moss Lane for whatever reason e.g. personal/family/football/health.
We know that one day this event will happen because (unless he is hiding something from us!) he is not immortal.
Are you seriously suggesting that if the Board advertised the vacant post of manager, not a single soul would apply for the job?
It would surely appeal to a host of prospective managers, whether they were experienced or just making their way in the game or employed elsewhere as a manager or even 'inbetween jobs'.
It seems to me that it is an insult to the current Board to say that nobody would want to work for them after they have done so much to put this club on such a sound financial footing.
After all, any new manager would inherit an honest and dedicated Board of Directors; a club in a healthier financial situation than it has experienced for years and a loyal fanbase who are (largely) incredibly tolerant and understanding of the difficulties faced by the club at this level of the Non League structure.
If coming to Alty is so unattractive, what on earth is Graham Barrow thinking by joining us?
So, please....let's bury this myth that nobody would take on the job if GH left.
Altrincham FC is bigger than any individual.
Even Ian Tunnacliffe.

Perhaps you could have expressed yourself in a manner less open to misinterpretation then?

Heathcote is out of control and neither the Chairman nor the Board have the b***s to tell him to mind his behaviour. This is just another incident to add to his list : remember the first game this season versus Exeter: remember Kendal : remember the public brawl with match sponsor Dave Treacy : remember the FA Cup Tie at Lancaster etc etc . Are we passionate fans to stand or sit there and say nowt whilst he berates all and sunder, especially the match officials. He is an embarrassment to the club and in my view the sooner he goes the better. Over to you Graham Barrow.....................
-
Can i jst say, first of all if GH was to leave his position durring this season and i quote "this season", i do believe that it would go to the assistant manager, or a experiaced one, due to the fact that the club were fighting for servival. I do not feel the board would allow for a new manager with little experiace to take over, on the terms of the fans and what is in the best interest for the club. However, if we were to do into the dark and dismall conference north, and GH left, then any manager would be welcome becasue it is a chance to prove your self that you are cut out to be a manager.

This is what i and many other fans alike think of your last comment..............."SOD OFF TO NORTHWICH THEN" im sure you would all get along like a house on fire, its there type of attitude. Not to support the manager in times of much needed support.

Somehwere amongst all of this thread is the truth. For my 2p..
First of all, it is utter drivel to say that no one else could manage this club for all the reasons that Cult has mentioned. Moreover, it is is something that needs to be pointed out as I don't feel that it does GH or indeed the club any favours.
2. GH is not currently doing a 'great job'. yes, the best that he can and we've looked better of late. Don't get me wrong the blokes a legend in my eyes but we need to keep a sense of perspective here, we are only 1pt off relegation after all. But a 'great job' it is not and I'm sure GH would reflect in private (and probably does) that mistakes have been made and things could have been handled better. And as has been menttioned on here he does deserve credit for the way the situatuion is currently being addressed.
3. 'So called' Alty fans. Look, these people have a right to say their piece. And I'm sorry but with 13 home defeats in the first half of the seaon I think that the patience and support shown so far has been incredible. If you lose game then clearly there is room for 'opinion'. I don't doubt that 95% of the stuff that graham hears shouted is total sh*te and I'm sure that football is much more complex at this level than we fans could know. I'm sure it would get on my tits too but GH has to rise above it. It makes him looks childish and petulant and the club look poor.
I've said before GHs instransigence/stubborness has been a great asset to him and the club but it can also be a weakness. If he is so correct then just rise above it, easier typed than done when you're under pressure I guess but rise above it. I'll qualify that with syaing that harmless quotes usually have an adjective or two taken out by the time it gets to this stage. Perhaps not in this case but in previous instances.
And it's too late for all the rest.

People forget the terrace and come and join us in the main stand, we may not sing and we boo alot but the view is better and you get to watch Heathcote make a t*at of himself in front of the opposing team's directors. Its just pure drama because if its not poor old Robbie Lawton being slated on the pitch ? GH could turn on anyone at any given second. It was cringe worthy last night but up to that point it was the most excitement we had seen !
If GH moved his dug out to the Golf Road end id join you all ! I really really hope he makes a success of the club and stays around, hes like a poor mans Neil Warnock ! a real character

VofD i am going to try and be constructive but it will be impossible;
You are a total nob;
Why dont you just grow old gracefully and die somewhere quietly?
You have never rated Graham and never will;
I bet you went home on Tuesday night and self harmed yourself with your pension book because you were so upset with the win;
I can not take anything you say seriously because you have never given a balanced view;
I think i am going to come into the main stand next home game and sh*t in your flat cap;
Come on Alty

I think this is pretty much spot on along with what alty365 mentioned. As much as we need to put this to bed its not us who can do that. GH will have to address the issue himself. We have to come on here and 'moan' because otherwise the club will become a laughing stock.
Ps. I cant wait to see alty.fc pull off the flat cap incident ;D
