A curious statistic
« on: February 08, 2008, 04:45:53 PM »

(which I hope is no longer applicable after tomorrow's visit to Droylsden):

Stuart Coburn has yet to keep a clean sheet in a league game this season.

And now he's going to do it for two games on the trot!
How curious  ::)

Curious yes, but a tad harsh on Stuart that one.................the team has only kept two league clean sheets all season (both times with Richard Acton in goal)

My comment was not meant as any sort of criticism of Stuart Coburn but was merely an observation on our defensive problems.

Stuart kept a clean sheet at Kendal Town, as I recall.

Frankly, with some of our calamitous defending this season, Petr Cech would not have kept a clean sheet either.

A sage person once said that there are lies, damn lies and staistics

Also you can use statistics to prove or otherwise most things. For example it has been statistically proven that FCUM are a better football team than Chelsea.

Stuart has played significantly more first team matches than Richard, has probably conceded less goals per minute on the pitch, saved more penalties and rescued more points than Richard who has, per minute of first team action probably committed more errors which have led to goals, has been sent off more times and dropped from the first team more times.

These statistics make Stuart a better keeper.

It's great to have two competent keepers at the club. I just hope Stu comes off his line a bit more for crosses tomorrow, as my stomach lurches everytime the ball is played across our goal.

Another curious statistic was that the only other time that we've won two league games in a row this season included the Droylsden victory (football gods please take note)

And if I am not mistaken, I believe today is the first time all season we have won by more than one goal.
