What's the furthest north, south, east and west that Alty have played a competitive fixture?
-
blyth, exeter, and two other i reckon without looking or thinking too much
-
Blyth, Exeter, Bangor and Boston?
-
I reckon two of those are right but I think i can improve on both south and east.
Blyth, Exeter, Bangor and Boston?
-
Surely Dover must be a candidate?
-
What about wyemouth?
Is blyth more northern than whitby?

Is blyth more northern than whitby?
Considerably so.
-
I didnt have a clue. Thanks. :)
Have a goodwin!
-
North Blyth
South Weymouth
East Dover....surprised me!
West Bangor, or have we played at Caenarvon?
-
West might actually be Cliftonville in Ireland who we played away in a friendly a few years back.

I think these are the right answers but I too wonder if there might have been a Welsh one somewhere West of Bangor.
-
Dont know about cliftonville but appart from that I remember us playing a pre season friendly near RAF Valley on Anglesea ages ago.
-
Did we not play Gretna before they joined the Scottish league?
-
Not sure about Gretna but now I think about it I believe we may have played Ashington in the first season of the NPL? That's North of Blyth.

Gretna isn't actually as far North as Blyth. Did we ever play Bedlington Terriers at their place? That's up that way too.
I think Torquay will become the southernmost place we've played once we go there next season.
-
My husband reckons that North: Blyth South: weymouth West: Caernarfon East: Maidstone, he has looked all these up in the road map.

Dover's definitely further east than Maidstone.
-
Competitive fixture eh? I thought it was league play we were discussing last night?
Is Exeter not further south than Weymouth?
Dover is way east of Maidstone.
-
Btw mate, you have mail. The rattler is out for Exeter. 50 quid upwards for a day return-highway robbery :o
-
Is Exeter not further south than Weymouth?
Nope. We had Exeter down as furthest south and west but it's neither - how could we have forgotten the North Wales contingent?
-
Fair enough, the booze must have skewed my mental map!
Sarf - mail replied earlier.

The Ashington question remains........any older fans can confirm? Certain we played there about 1969?

And have we actually ever played at Caernafon? Or is it Bangor?

We have played AGAINST Caernarfon.....but (bizarrely) the match was a Cheshire Senior Cup tie when they spent a season playing at Ellesmere Port's ground whilst dodging the League Of Wales.
-
I saw us beat Ashington 6-0 in the Northern Premier League on Good Friday around 1969 so we have definitely played there.

During the inaugural season of the Northern Premier League (1968/69), Alty played at Ashington on Easter Monday, 7th April 1969 (having faced them at Moss Lane only three days earlier on Good Friday).
-
So can anyone improve on (excluding friendlies):
Ashington
Weymouth
Dover
Bangor
?
-
have actually done the longditude thingy on weymouth and exeter as the country is on a tilt and is not as appears ona map ????
havent got time to do the research me sen but will leave someone with a real job to sort out
-
Having studied this on a latitudinal/longitudinal map I am fairly sure that the definitive answer for competive fixtures is:-
North-Ashington
South-Weymouth
East-Dover
West-Bangor
I have discounted Caernarvon on account of the game taking place at Ellesmere Port.
If you include friendlies then the game at Cliftonville in Belfast is the one.I think that Niell Hardy scored in a 1-0 win.
-
east canvey island? ???
-
How about:
Northwich Victoria
South Shields or South Liverpool
Eastwood Town (have we played them? - if not then 'Orient'!!)
Struggling for West!!

Eastbourne Borough, surely.
-
Have we not played 'Weston-super-mare'
-
furthest east has to be the orient then
and we had of beat them we would have played west ham.
the most central team would be middlewich then
-
We did play Eastwood (Hanley) in the early seventies in the FA Cup.
-
:D alty nse&w furthest north i would go for Ashington south got to be Dover west bangor east Boston

did play Ashington away easter monday 1969 won 2-1

We've already established that Dover is East of Boston and also that Weymouth is further south than Dover
Therefore we've already worked out:
NORTH-Ashington
EAST-Dover
WEST -Bangor
SOUTH-Weymouth
