Altrincham FC First Team / RIP Clare
« on: March 19, 2021, 07:04:05 PM »
As can be seen on the main site Clare Allan, wife of Bob, Mother of Margaret and very long term Altrincham fan has sadly passed away following a recent fall.
I, like many, knew Clare for many years.
Condolences to Bob, Margaret, friends and family

Those of a certain vintage will recall one Andy Green.
He was bonkers, the original Mr Angry but he scored goals and disturbed defenders.
You didn't have to know how to wind him up...he came, to use a phrase "oven ready". If you had taken that aggression away he wouldn't have been half the player for us that he was.
Ken McKenna was no shrinking violet either and nor is Kosylo.
If you want the effectiveness you sometimes have to carry the baggage that comes with it

No Nick Daws?

No Showler?

No Mad Dog or Talbs?

Kingy, JR, Jeff Johnson, Ken McKenna?

He was on the pitch for 20 minutes

Indeed he was but my personal view is that he isn't the answer to our needs.
He doesn't do what we need a sole No9 to do.

I would say give him more time but he's on loan and doesn't have that commodity available to him.

Maybe, because he's not performed anywhere near as well as the other two he had fallen under more scrutiny, I don't know

Yet again, for the time he was on, Gibson was underwhelming.
Gave it away, passing poor, again ran down blind alleys with it

Mooney just had one of those first games back I think.

Whilst you always want your striker to score, if you look at what else we have going forward I reckon someone to hold it up, link the play and occupy the centre backs has enormous value.

I believe the malign hand of Mr Flashman, combined with the more relaxed player loan regulations at the time made a considerable contribution.
He lent, I believe, Slough a player with specific instructions to "do" Harry Wiggins as we didn't have cover for him. Also several players were loaned out to Clubs we were to play so that they could rest their better players for their game against us

Very sad indeed.

I knew Jim for many years and a nicer bloke you would struggle to find.

It's often said at times like this that the deceased was "a proper football man"  Jim was, and then some

RIP Jim

Condolences to Family and Friends

I'm not doubting he has ability and I accept that he is young and that it was his first game for us.

However, particularly when down to ten, you need your line striker to keep possession, allow those behind him to move upfield a bit and relieve the pressure.
Perhaps that's not his standpoint?
Getting hold of it, keeping it and linking the play are pre requisites in that scenario. If you can't do that, get hold and head for touchline and corners.
Anyway, good result.
Sorry if a bit negative

Off the bits I saw due to the stream issue and the commentary I heard in the absence if pictures, I was very impressed by Zouma, impressed by Ogle and, I'm afraid somewhat underwhelmed by the striker.
Too often he gave it away or ran down blind alleys with it and on occasion declined clear shooting opportunities.

Assuming he plays next Tuesday and the gremlins leave us alone I will be happy to revise my opinions

Altrincham FC First Team / Happy Birthday to a hero
« on: March 01, 2021, 11:34:45 AM »
Today is the birthday of Mark "Mad Dog" Maddox.

A hero to many of us on the pitch and more since he began his battle with MND

Does anyone feel inclined to join with those of us in wishing him a happy birthday

Thanks Bill

Was just confused (not difficult I know) by reference to 11 questions earlier in thread

How do we know which questions were asked, by whom and which may be answered please?

We can't just blame the ref though. The defending has been atrocious and we didn't look like scoring even with 11.

Wasn't trying to attach all, or indeed much blame to him.
We have been defensively iffy all game and naive in a number of areas of the game.

Was just saying that, having been comparatively content with most of the refs I've seen this season, he is below the standard of the rest

I would have to say that thus far The Referee, Mr Parsons, has been poor.
His foul detection  random at best and his man management abject

And some goal it was too
Quite reminiscent of some he scored for us
