Surprised nobody mentioned Ellender in team of the decade?? Mind you we have had our share of decent centre backs looking at it.

We've also had our fair share of misfits...off the top of my head Ryan Hevicon and David Wills spring to mind. Not sure if Wills played enough to qualify - if I remember rightly he was from Trafford and played a couple of games in the Unibond.

What about Andy Moore in goal? I do seem to remember him making some half decent saves but our defensive record at the start of that season when he played was pretty appalling.

I think that Paul Ellender was sold to Scarborough in November 1999.

Andy Moore wasn't the goalkeeper when we conceded 12 goals in the opening three games of the 2002/03 season.
Nick Stephens was (hence his inclusion in my aforementioned team of duffers!).

What about a misfits of the decade team?

Sorry....but I couldn't resist that challenge.

So, here goes:

1. Nick Stephens

2. Dave Swanick

3. Andy Scott

4. Jason Van Blerk

5. James Glendenning

6. Cavell Coo

7. Ryan Toulson

8. Gareth Whalley

9. Chris Young

10. Adewale Ajetunmobi

11. Justin Bowler.

In a word: abysmal.

Number 4, seem to recall him playing at Southport, wasn't it the game that got abandoned because of floodlight failure ? And Whalley, what ashame :(

With Ryan Hevicon on one wing, and Justin Bowler on the other, we'd be guaranteed to put in 45 less crosses per match than Wrexham !

It is extraordinary how many left sided misfits we have had: Tierney, Coo, Andy Scott, van Blerk, Logan, Roca, Blake Norton, Hevicon, Bowler and (arguably) Phoenix & Swanick.

My XI is:

Timms
Swanick, Gendenning, Waterfall, van Blerk
Whalley, McKenzie
Bowler, P Thomson, Lutel James, Hevicon

Coburn
Shotton, McGregor, Young
Densmore, Craney, Hussin, Chalmers, D Adams
Little, Thornley, Ellison

Subs: Saunders, Doughty, Maddox, Owen, & Talbot

Stop cheating! You can't have 12 players...

Mike,

Glad to see that your Mathematics degree course is already paying dividends...!

blackpoolalty,

Jason Van Blerk did indeed make his Alty debut in that 2-2 draw at Southport on Tuesday, 23rd September 2003.

The floodlights did fail that evening but it only resulted in a delay to proceedings and not an abandonment.

A bit harsh on Luke Waterfall.

It was a toss up between him & Bowker, but Waterfall came to the club with a higher pedigree.

And waterfall in a misfits is harsh. A bit like Tierney. I would not say either were terrible. We didnt see enough of them to make a sound judgement. Its like saying moffat (united RB this year) is in that side.

What happened to Tierney? He was quite highly rated in his early days, has his career gone anywhere?

Carlos Roca was at FCUM recently and generally regarded as one of their best players. Just underlines the gulf in class between the BSP and the rest of Non-League.

Waterfall was quite the oddest scenario. We didn't think much of him, then he looked like he was going to join Oxford. I wonder what he's doing now?

As for team of the decade, I think the league table suggests it has to be our team of late 2009  :)
