With further regards to Ollie Byrne. The poor lad has come through much criticism on this forum recently so I felt it just as important to see positives in him, which there are many. Saw him in the 2nd half of the Wythy game. The girls and I greeted his entrance to the pitch with a loud and perfectly audible 'C'mon Ollie' which he waved to in acknowledgement. I was pleased about that! Though he did not have many opportunities for any major saves tonight, I thought he did really well with his ball distribution. Some of his spreading of the ball to the two Justin's was inch perfect, and it was like having an additional sweeper at the back. Our players had trust in him during the game and used him to play the ball back to as and when necessary and I noted how confident he was with his distribution. I was also impressed with our back four players as they confidently dealt with everything Wythy threw at them. I did not think they were too bad a side either and think they may do well in their league, but I found our performance comfortable throughout and I enjoyed the game very much. Ollie I think will settle and this game will have upped his confidence a bit, I do feel much better after watching him at this game. His link with the full backs and also the wingers will be very important and may start off many attacks if he maintains the distribution from that game.
I would also like to thank Wythenshawe for their friendly treatment of me as a restricted mobility fan, in particular allowing me to use the disabled spot with my Blue Badge. They made myself and the girls very welcome and made it a good spectator experience.
Their Pork Scratchings are delicious too!!
