Paulo Sousa wasn't impressed by him:

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/swansea-city-fc/2009/12/29/swansea-city-boss-paulo-sousa-slams-lack-of-respect-91466-25483412/

 :D

Whether this related to a friend of mine or not, whether this related to a Referee or not I'm afraid that Mr Sousa just makes himself look a pillock by this.

As Ecky says the guy done well, is it too much to acknowledge that somebody has achieved by hard work and no small amount of talent? or do we have to start looking for ways to, directly or otherwise, belittle him??

Objective as ever.

For the record Phil, I totally agree with you.

Phil,is this a first at this level,I can remember a couple of local lads
who ran the line in the old first division,I ask, just out of interest as
I think it's good for local football.

DAB - I have received this from one of our former top level assistants, John Everton

That must be Dennis Phillips, George Sant, yours truly, Eddie Tarry, and before us Wyn Brown, John Biggar and Duncan Bayley (Unibond League Secretary). Sure to have missed someone. I had six seasons on the (now) Conference middle: 1985-91.

Ant is the first local top flight referee since Roy Egan (Lymm).

In addition Altrincham has three National List Assistants at present in Peter Davies, Rick Bartlett and Paul Norris with some up and coming officials as well who may with a bit of luck and a lot of hard work also make the national list(s)

I can confirm that indeed George Sant, was a referee,, He is in fact my cousin, (havent seen him quite a while).

Jim Busby was my school teacher at St Vincent's and claimed he wasnt a top referee because he wore specs.
I remember as if it was yesterday that he said that the dirtiest foul in the book was the double footed tackle and he would send off anyone who did it. And that was in the days of hard men. It baffles me how today's players do it and some get away with it, yet get cautioned for other petty offences.
There was a mate of his who lived in the Altrincham area in the late 1960's who was a League ref but I cannot remember his name.

I am pretty sure I am not making this up, and I am not sure if it was for a 'big' game but Tommy Ryan was once a 4th official at Old Trafford *(or whatever new name it'll be called :)) as he had to wear a bandage over his Man City tatoo... Not sure what level the game was at though.

Phill help me .... (have I said those words before???)

Top news, Tez is indeed one of the nicest lads I know. Ex Alty grammar and a regular at Moss Lane in the early 90's. I know he was shortlisted to go for the premiership the other year. It looks like he has got a stage further now and will get a couple of games to prove his worth for next season as it were.

Dead pleased for him and I think we all wish him well.

Gaz,

A while back, before 'professionalism' , a good percentage of fourth Official appointments, which are now made centrally,  were made by the Local FA so it is possible that Tommy (who by the way was a very good Referee as well as being a proper good chap) may well have got that sort of appointment.

Unfortunately his match was postponed. Does he get to keep the fixture for when they replay it?
