On a happier note wouldn't it be great to have a compilation of Stu's best saves running in the club house. You could get at least an hour of that poetry in motion.

Steve,  that is a great idea.  The only problem is that many of Stu's legendary saves predate the invention of the camera!

Stu still makes quality saves and has been easily are best keeper the 30 years I've been going but if last season was his first season for alty and we released him no one would've batted an eyelid

Cant agree with this at all, nor do I believe many fans would agree with you,.... and certainly not without an adequate replacement, do we have one yet ? Parton wasnt that, it remains to be seen if Deasy is.
One day his form will dip but as long as he keeps playing like he did tuesday, and with his tremendous influence in the dressing room, we should ALL give him our full support.

Please ignore the knockers on here stu and keep playing well.

Criticising someone doesn't mean you don't support them.

I hope Coburn goes out every game and plays like Gordon Banks.

However, there's no virtue in pretending that Coburn's kicking is any good or that he doesn't make more errors than he used to.

It's this kind of attitude that gives credence to the criticism that the forum is full of "happy clappers".

I actually do agree with what you have said below. My point was that after making some superb saves on tuesday which is what started the post off, some fans still were still overly focussing on his kicking inadequacies, which has never been his strong point.

We all have strengths and weaknesses, if we could find a keeper with only strengths he probably would be too expensive for us and/or playing at a higher level.

If Stu was as reliable on crosses as he is a shot stopper he'd have gone with Kevin Ellison to Leicester and had a similar career FL club wise I reckon. What's more of a question is why Conf Prem clubs other than Leigh didn't make him offers more attractive than staying with us. He's clearly been a cut above most keepers at this level for well over a decade. The same could be said of Steve Drench at Guiseley.

Goal keepers can play well into there 40s and still pull off great saves
The best save I've seen from stu was against Rushden an diamonds a few years back
Even there plastick fans aplauded it  but he will  have a lot of practice with the shots firing

Stu's always been superb on crosses. Less so in recent years I guess but back in the day he was as good as anyone I've seen here?

Also, Parton let in lots of goals, Jimmy thinks he's awful, I agree and Lee Sinnott clearly thought so too.

addmitidly I was wrong to come on and knock stu after he obviously had a superb game but you started the debate by asking eighties robin to where he was

Can't agree there Ballers. No better shot stopper outside FL for 10+ years and can't remember a better all-round Alty goalkeeper.

I'm sure that, at the very least, he WAS superb on crosses?

Is my memory failing me?

Ballers,

Well, he was OK on his Alty debut back in March 1998.....
