Sad to hear this. I used to deliver his papers when I was a lad. Really nice bloke and a great player.

This would have been a great game for me in the nineties (or in the eighties when I lived on the south coast myself), as my uncle lived in Havant, and I used to stay over when we played Farnborough Town. In fact, his house was adjacent to their former ground at Front Lawn - they might have been Havant Town then, prior to their merger with Waterlooville - and I have seen a Sunday league game there, after they had moved out, when I stayed for a weekend and my uncle and auntie probably wanted me out of the house. Sadly, they had both died by 2001.
I have never been inside the current ground, which they have been able to develop as it's further away from any houses, although I have seen it from outside. However we have had a meeting, sort of, with Havant and Waterlooville before, as some of us took part in a quiz competition organised by Tony Williams of Team Talk magazine and the Non-League Directory in which we were drawn against them in 2004. Unfortunately, they beat us as I couldn't remember Nuneaton Borough's colours, and a ringer in our team thought that Moss Lane was the home ground of Macclesfield Town!
We obviously can't attend as Havant's in tier 4 (somebody had told me Waterlooville is in tier 2, which would be funny, but, apparently is incorrect), but this must be one of the ties of the round with both clubs in good form. Boston United v Chesterfield looks interesting too, although I have to wonder how seriously Chesterfield will take it.
Fantastic result From the boys. Didn’t sound like classic but who cares !It wasn't a great game and whoever is putting the highlights together will have a job on their hands. Shocker of a mistake for the goal.
Great commentary on Radio Robins .
Look forward to seeing the highlights later on Alty TV
I know Cumbrae from my uni days. Visited the Marine Biological Station there a few times. Years later I visited Greenock for work a few times and stayed in Largs.Fair do’s to Bill. He has taken the time to explain the situation regards sticking to COVID protocols . All the club is doing is taking the opportunity to make a few quid for the good and benefit of the Club.
If this gives the opportunity for an Alty fan to get to Bootham Crescent then fair enough.
If people disagree with the initiative then don’t buy a ticket.. if anybody does buy a ticket, then Good Luck
Personally I will miss the game on Saturday and the final in Aug as I am on holiday golfing in Scotland.
Good luck to all the players and staff at Alty.
I strongly recommend Millport Golf Club on the Island of Cumbrae. Nick Faldo once played the course deciding you need one leg longer than the other (or was it shorter?) and it has cracking views.
Having watched the video I can see the sending off and penalty were for a push in the back not a trip. I think the chap from Chester will have to accept the decision was correct when he sees it. Just because the referee booked every bookable offence doesn't mean he was a bad ref. I thought he treated both teams the same.Agree completely. The only reason Johnston got to the ball was because he pushed Mooney who was going down as a result. From the refs point of view behind the play I think the push would have been more visible and even the tackle would have looked like it was from behind more than from the side. From the point he decided it was a foul the sending off was inevitable - obviously it prevented a clear goal scoring opportunity.
Simply needed to see the last few minutes out and failed to do so. History wont remember anything but the result.History might not but I will.
The Lawrence is very good and that area of side streets has a lot of decent pubs. A bit further along the main road to The Sir Loin of Beef but it is a great pub, quirky, full of odd junk and usually has at least 4 decent ales on. The Phoenix is also very good. The Leopold Tavern used to be fantastic (nine non-mainstream cask ales) but the Pubco did the usual and priced the landlord out and I believe it is rather ordinary now but does have tellies for live sport.
Wouldn't recommend the spoons near Fratton Park (John Jacques) before the game, will have door staff, probably rammed with home fans.
Pub wise i imagine some will wish to stay on the train to Portsmouth & Southsea and then gradually work their way towards Fratton-that’s certainly our plan and there a lot of cracking pubs in the city centre to kick off with. The Brewhouse & Kitchen a short stroll from P&S station and opens at 11 so think we’ll start there.
Think tomorrow (for a change for me certainly) we will also be looking to get in the ground a at least 20-30 mins before kick off and drink it all in.
Pompey say 8,000 home fans. I do hope it’s better than that.Unfortunately, home fans don't turn out in numbers for a game against lower opposition for a cup match. We had 680 against Whitley Bay in the Cup last season, and that included a good away support.
Sure they took more to Wembley the other year🤔
A total attendance approaching 9000 is, if anything, a bit more than I was expecting and a decent effort from Portsmouth.
Plenty in the GBG I think the good companion is the designated away pub

Their forum is already dismissive of us, eg "should be a turkey shoot". However, Portsmouth are rather underachieving this season, and are in the lower half of League 1. Prior to putting 4 past Southend in their most recent league outing (and there IS a turkey shoot !) they'd only scored 16 goals in 14 games. We're perfectly capable of earning a replay. I hear the sound of ringing cash registers.....As a Pompey season ticket holder I agree 100% with this.
Pompey are not playing well this season. They lost their best two centre backs - one to long term injury, one to a premier league team - and are struggling in defence. Another CB went off injured last night and so did Tom Naylor who has been the best player in the team and captain. The reports are that they won't be out for long but if Naylor doesn't play it would be good for Alty.
They have struggled to break down teams who are solid and well-organised at the back and have been vulnerable to teams who can break quickly. Could suit Alty.
On the other hand don't expect Pompey's management to underestimate Alty. There is a lot of unrealistic expectation about everything on the fan forums. I wouldn't take much notice of anything said there.
What's the mobile signal like at FP mate?
Would I be able to put tweets out (match day updates) from the away end, do you reckon?
