No complacency
« on: October 25, 2008, 07:02:00 PM »

five Conference teams fell by the wayside today and although 19 (including Alty) are in the draw for the first round, only 8 are definitely through.

Burton's loss at kettering can't really be classified as a shock but the other 4 sound a warning note for us:

Team bath beat Salisbury
Evesham utd beat rushden - this one strikes me as the closest parallel to Blue * v Alty
Crawley tonked at home by Havant
and Weymouth beaten by hornchurch

Let's concentrate on getting through - and take nothing for granted!

Good luck tomorrow - and let our travelling fans be in good voice!

And a number of results where BSP teams have just been happy to draw

Ashford Town (Middx) 0-0 Forest Green  :-X
Aylesbury 0-2 Sutton Utd
Blyth Spartans 3-1 Sheffield
Boston Utd 2-3 Cambridge Utd
Burgess Hill Town 0-3 Harlow
Bury Town 4-1 Basingstoke
Crawley Town 0-3 Havant and W
Dorchester 1-0 Bishop's Stortford
Droylsden 0-0 Belper Town
Durham City 2-2 Histon
Evesham 2-0 Rushden & D'monds  :o
Fleetwood Town 4-3 Nantwich Town
Grays Athletic 2-0 AFC Totton
Hampton & Richmond 0-1 Brackley
Hinckley Utd 1-1 Curzon Ashton
Kettering 3-0 Burton Albion  >:(
King's Lynn 1-5 Kidderminster  8)
Leiston 1-1 Lewes  :o
Maidstone 0-1 AFC Wimbledon
Oxford City 0-1 Eastbourne Borough
Oxford Utd 2-0 Hayes & Yeading  8)
Retford Utd 1-3 Alfreton Town
Stevenage 2-2 Horsham  :o
Tamworth 0-4 Barrow
Team Bath 1-0 Salisbury
Torquay 4-1 Chipstead
Weymouth 1-2 AFC Hornchurch  :o
Woking 2-2 Ebbsfleet United
Wrexham 0-0 Eastwood Town  :o
York 0-0 Mansfield

A couple of things that spring to mind are hwat effect these defeats might have on Salisbury given they have missed out on money they are seemingly desperate for, perhaps Weymouth too as that goes.

Barrow - what a result that is, Tamworth is a hard place to go and have been on a storming run in the league.

This worries me
I saw Hornchursh beat Merstam 2-0 at home in the last round. Hornchurch are near bottom of Ryman Premier and Merstham near top of Ryman South.
However Hornchurch were not very good and way below Conference standard.
I am worried how Weymouth beat inform Alty one week and the next Saturday lose to Hornchurch who are 2 divisions below them.
The only similarity between Alty and Hornchurch is that we play in almost exactly the same strip, except Hornchurch have a red flash on the side of their black shorts.
Hopefully we will go to Newcastle aware of the dangers and potential giant killing - and go with the attitude to give them a good hiding !!!

The advantage we have is the we have been the underdogs in just about every match we have played in the last 5 years.  There's no billy big balls about us.

A totally professional approach should do the job. However, we've all been there........

C'mon Alty.

What happened at Crawley?
H&W are the local team here. I went to the game when they beat Swansea at home. Terrific cup match.
But their team has changes alot since last year and they're not exactly ripping it up in the BS South.

Did Crawley put out a weakened team or were they complacent?  A warning to us this afternoon.

Come on Alty.... Luton away'ts (geddit? :-) )
