OK.How many of those clubs have you visited? I would guess Flynny has done them all.

Out of 87 I can remember 67 I have been to, with 3 new ones still to do this season. I may have forgotten a couple when I was accompanied by the gazelle in the late 70's early 80's!

You're asking people to relive a whole lot of pain right there. Fixture backlog.........just don't go there (in fact I wish someone had said that to me when I took two days off work, I was ill after all, to go to Slough on that fateful night).

It was still in our hands as long as the 23rd April

http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/conference/1990-1991/table/1991-04-23

A combination of a wafer thin squad and an horrendous backlog of fixtures caused by an FA Trophy semi final run right at the death was the major factor. Losing the 28 game unbeaten record away at Barrow was a killer but in reality losing a 3-1 lead half time lead in injury time at Slough was the point where it went out of our hands and we became reliant onothers dropping points.

To quote B. Flynn " the whole future destiny of Altrincham Football Club changed on a Thursday night in Berkshire in front of a curious mixture oF Altrincham, Slough, Wycombe and Barnet fans", or something like that.  :'(

Had we actually been promoted that season what would have become of us? I'm not so sure it wouldn't all have ended in tears, I'd be interested what others think?

given the way the club absolutely imploded during the summer it would definately have ended intears. Whether that would have happened if we'd gone up we'll never know. I suspect not. I think we might have done ok in the league.

I don't think we'd have done as well as we might have had we gone up when we had more than earned the right (where would we be now?).

Ballers,

Forgive the pedantry but that fateful 3-3 draw at Slough was played out on a Tuesday evening.

Some of us still receive post-traumatic stress counselling for the denouement of the 1990/91 season....

Two other key factors:

(i) Ken McKenna getting sent off in the FA Trophy Semi-Final second leg defeat against Wycombe at Moss Lane and consequently being suspended for key league fixtures;

(ii) Alty's failure to sign Mark Carter from Runcorn that season (Barnet did). Would he have given us that extra impetus over the closing stages of the season?

Yes, I noticed that after I posted but having dealt with an illiterate printer all day I couldn't be bothered.

The run in of course was

Wednesday - Barrow a
Sunday - Stafford a
Tuesday - Slough a (I was sat at home due to it being parents evening)
Thursday - Vics h
Saturday - Boston h

The two points you mention are intrinsically linked. Signing Mark Carter would surely have got us the title, even if only by virtue of Barnet not having him. Signing his not very good brother Mike 3 months later smacked of shutting the (wriong) gate after the horse had bolted.

However, a cheaper option may also have made the difference. I knwo from speaking to Ken McKenna that aside from the suspension he was in absolute agony from an ankle problem and was requiring pain killing injections before gamesand at half time. He in fact told John King that he just wasn't up to it for the last month or so of the season and urged him to go and sign "Cammy" known to you and me as Chris Camden who would have actually fitted into our tem fairly well, certainly got on the end of Showler's crosses.

How many of the matches have you attended?

http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/conference-premier/all-time-table/full

I like this bit at the bottom.

Northwich Victoria deducted 10 points
Altrincham deducted 18 points
Yeovil Town deducted 1 point
Scarborough deducted 1 point
Dagenham and Redb'ge deducted 1 point
Halifax Town deducted 10 points
Gateshead deducted 1 point
Burton Albion deducted 1 point
Merthyr Tydfil deducted 2 points
Crawley Town deducted 16 points
Tamworth deducted 3 points
Mansfield Town deducted 4 points
Points based on points system that applied at the time
Goal difference then goals scored applies when teams are level on points
