While he was generally woeful during his short tenure, we should never forget that he signed Tom Hannigan.

If you sign 50 players there's a good chance at least one of them might turn out OK  ;D

I think he might be referring to either James Jones or Roscoe? (possibly the former?)

Yeah, to put it another way: we don't need another [insert position here] - yes that's true as things stand, but might not be the case in a week's time, we don't know.

And if we choose to release (or someone doesn't sign a deal) we should now be looking for a replacement that we feel confident will be starter quality... for promotion / League Two, not starter quality for what we were this time last year (or the year before).

Not just referring to the centre back situation here - the same is true of finding a midfielder that could threaten to bench Elliott or Isaac, or a winger that could bench Justin or Alex.

The 'starter quality' goalpost moves.

Cooper and Baines both signed contract extensions earlier this year.

Hopefully, we are trying very very hard to secure the quite brilliant Matty Williams from Chester. Apart from that, I think we should be seeking to secure some older, more experienced heads to bolster our squad which is youthful enough.
Do we need another CB? we've got 3 starter quality and a very suitable bench option with Roscoe.

I think we're gonna see a larger squad this year, the new Mickey Mouse comp and 7 subs kind of dictates it.

I expect we'll see the retained list as soon as we've done speaking with the out of contract lads. I doubt we started on the process as early this year what with the whole Play Off excursion.

Either way, I want to see us send a 3/4 off in to the sunset and bring in 5/7 to bolster squad.

I've heard we're working to get further cash investment so obviously I'm expecting Prem in 5 years also.

Unfortunately you have to be brutal to keep pushing on - look at Stockport and Wrexham saying goodbye to recent club legends - if someone comes available that threatens to push an existing starter to the bench, that's exactly the way that things should work.

With regard to our centre backs, I suspect that at least one of them might be out of contract this summer - in which case they might end up needing to be replaced.

Braintree in 2016 was a bad day, one of the worst in fact, although I immediately think of Tamworth a year later as being an even worse day.

Worthing were once one of my local teams, although I never quite took to them. They were knocking on the door of the Alliance Premier League, as was, in the mid eighties, and would be a much better day out or weekend away than Braintree, with a ground handy for both station and seaside. They apparently play really attactive football, too.

Still, I'd prefer being in our position and having to go to Braintree than in Macc or NOrthwich Vics' and having to work out how to get to Market Harborough or OJM Black Country!

I remember falling over at that ground on my way into the ground. There was an uneven surface just to the right of the turnstiles on the way in and went over on it. I fell and knocked over another fan who hurst his knee.

That ground was unsafe then on what I agree was a miserable afternoon.

Christ that was an awful day. We stayed in the bar most of the second half it was that bad, locals rubbing it in as they got in the play offs. Its a trek from anywhere & zero decent pubs in the town. They were just about my least preferred option of the Conference South teams but there we are.
