Who are the ELEVEN clubs whose name begins with the letter 'E' against whom Alty have played a competitive fixture since the start of the 1960s?
The answers will appear in the issue of the Robins Review for Saturday's fixture against Eastleigh.

You utter bast*rd! Just typing. Anyway it is Eastwood (Hanley).......is that a separate team?
-
Esher or am I making that one up?
-
A 10-0 away win(at moss ame) in the FA Cup to Earlestown having lost to the the previous season. And that makes 11
-

You are, you won't find a round ball around there unless a child has dropped it.

Esher is a Rugby club
Earlestown in FA Cup in 1961/2

Although I have it in my head that we played Epsom & Ewell in a friendly as well as the Trophy I am probably wrong. Was it East Fife?

Yes.

7th August 1982
Altrincham 1 (Heathcote) East Fife 2 (Hutt, Wedderburn)
-
Absolutely no idea how I remembered that.

We used to have quite a thing with pre-season Friendlies against Scottish (a foreign land?) sides. I can also recall Stirling Albion and Greenock Morton and I think there may have been others....my recollection grows hazy.
-
We played Arbroath one year in the early 90's.
-
While we're talking about friendlies, what's the most random friendly you've been to?
I'll start the ball rolling with away at Alton Royale. It was somewhere in Birmingham in a roped off field in the early 90s but can't recall which season, nor the score nor any indication of the result. Can someone else confirm that this game really happened?

You were not hallucinating:
20th July 1991
Olton Royale...1 Altrincham...4
There's even a match programme for that fixture.
-
Did anyone on here attend the Hillingdon Borough and Wycombe Wanderers away pre-season friendlies on consecutive days back in August 1972?

Another one for the list: Montrose in July 1990.

Altrincham v Mazda was a bit bizarre

That has revived the memory - I think that King & Heathcote were still in charge then, before departing a week or two later?
-
Didn't we play someone from Northern Ireland once?
Cliftonville or Coleraine I think?
-
Cliftonville - beat them 4-1
I also "remember" us playing Arbroath
-
We played Partick Thistle in a home friendly in the mid 80s. I had a tutor who was a Thistle fan who was amazed to bump into the entire squad walking round Alty on the day of the game.

We've played Cliftonville on two occasions: at home in 1981 and then in Northern Ireland in 1996.

I can find no record of Alty ever having played Partick Thistle.
-
Did we play Wycombe Wanderers in a friendly on the eve of a Trophy final in the late 70s or did I imagine that - I vaguely recall ex Alty centre half beardie Steve Hardwick was in the Wycombe squad

Paul,
Your memory is not playing tricks upon you!
That match took place on Friday, 18th May 1979.
I've only recently managed to obtain a programme from that game, so I will have to dig it out and check for any references to Steve Hardwick.
