Great news for Duncan and I assume us, there is surely a sell-on clause. Not so sure that you see too many 5 year contracts these days either.
-
Great news , not beyond beyond possible that he goes somewhere for five million at some stage if he carries on improving and if we have say a 10 % plus sell on clause .

Not sure we see it here either. It's a four year contract isn't it Figgy?
-
Good result, hope he does well.
Another good thing for Duncan, is that Big Sam likes how he is progressing 😀
-
If Duncan looks good in what is a pretty poor Sunderland team, the big clubs will be knocking on the door if they should get relegated. Think I'll find a boozer to watch them at Palace tomorrow night.

It's actually neither,it's 4 and 1/2 years.

I admire your pedantry but I've not thought about this much. When you agree a new deal does it start at the end of the current deal or start immediately?
-
I guess that is part of the negotiations - you can have pay rise now of a bigger one at the end of the season....

I'd never thought about it possibly starting at the end of the current deal actually,I just presumed it started when announced.

If it's a "new" deal then it starts at the date of signing, unless there is a clause added stating otherwise, but that seems an unusual thing to do.

Neville, Carragher and Allardyce all with nice things to say on Monday Night Football.
-
Did well coming forward, but needs to look at his defending.
11/2 Sunderland, get in😀

Just came across this articel by Andy Mitten from back in August: http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/manchester-united-story-premier-leagues-9885017
Interesting to see in print that the fee was around £100,000 (as has been suggested on here).
Also interesting to see Graham Rowley saying that some of the cash was spent on getting players in for our promotion season, and that cash was spent on the CSH.

I am sure there was a forum thread about this very article back at the time............think the conclusion was that the MEN 'facts' and 'quotes' are journalism and may not be correct

Fair enough when it comes to the fee.
However, the part about the Watmore money went towards is a direct quote from Graham Rowley! It would be pretty off to just make them up!
-
Yes it would be 'pretty off' to deliberately misquote somebody in a newspaper, but it would not be that uncommon for a local paper to get it wrong through poor journalism either. I am just saying that it should not be taken as 'gospel' just because you read it in the MEN.
-
Andy Mitten is a reasonably well respected football journalist - I'm not sure he would make things up.
Anyway, wouldn't the club put out a statement if a major newspaper had made up a quote from the chairman?
-
I remember one of the red tops (as reliable as they are) reporting it as £500,000 at the time!

If Andy Carroll can be valued at £35,000,000 then just about anything is possible.

If he gets moved on for half as much as Bale, and assuming we have a sell-on, I don't think this club will ever have to worry about money again :o

Was just about to share this on here. Pretty daft statement considering Bale was named PFA Player of the Year at the age of 21.
What isn't daft is holding out hope for someone to buy Watmore for a few million. If Manchester City can pay £8,000,000 for Scott Sinclair, they can certainly consider Watmore should he continue to develop.
EDIT: As another example, Manchester United paid around £10,000,000 for Wilfried Zaha.
-
Money gets absolutely daft in the Prem - after all, he's just signed a £15k per week deal having played a few minutes of Prem football.
Absolutely not beyond the question that someone might stump up a few million for him
-
That is some statement from Defoe. Fingers crossed, Duncan just carries on carrying on.

Andy Mitten wrote an article about Alty for FourFourTwo magazine a few years ago and I think that I am right in saying that he is a friend of Graham Heathcote.
