Fair play. We are safe, Aldershot basically safe so can go at this full pelt without affecting the league. Nice work to get it on at our ground too. Crowd will be interesting with it being midweek & all pay. Somewhere around 1500 would be my guess.

Decent game with a very end of season air about it. We had most of the chances & yet if there was ever a game to sum up our season they score from a pen & an over hit cross. Still the main objective at the start of every season of preserving ourselves at this level has been achieved which most give PP, NS & all the players a great sense of satisfaction in what has been an up & down season.

Now onto Torquay, will there be tears in the Scoreboard end come 450 on Saturday…?

Worth remarking on with the huge turnover of players & loss of experience last summer. And then you look at Yeovil, Scunny & (probably) Torquay, huge clubs at this level but going down to regional football. It’s something that is increasingly taken for granted but this is a very hard league & a tough slog with a lot of travelling over 46 matches & for us to be comfortably clear of relegation for a 3rd consecutive season at this level is a fine achievement.

Hartlepool vs Crawley on Saturday too. Huge. Crawley go up there & win & that would be both the bottom two done for.

We are stumbling over the finish line here & thank god for that mad week where we did Woking, Barnet & Solihull as at the moment it looks like we’ll only just stay up by maybe 3-4 points. It has been a hard year with player turnover like no other season I can recall, but we are full time now & to go to part time Dorking who played on Easter Mon then had one training session since & throw away a two goal lead is absolutely criminal. The worst part is it would have surprised absolutely none of us.

It doesn’t seem to matter who is available or plays in our defence you get two goals a game off us pretty cheaply (think of the two we let in at Oldham only last week). It’s alright saying we have a young squad & they will improve but our recent league games have been against sides around us in the table & we have taken 1/9. I well recall our last national league relegation, the prior season ended with a terrible run of form, we must arrest this slide on Tuesday night.

i drove past the moss rose on saturday and they've got a big sign outside saying something along the lines of "since 1874.". i think that's called having it both ways isn't it?

Fair play to the match programme & website & any articles penned by a certain figure at the club & occasional habitue of this forum who always rightly refers to the ‘now defunct Macclesfield Town’. Never forget they ripped off local business & cheated the tax man and have no history whatsoever.

Regardless of who wins the second Semi they are both very South Cheshire so wouldn’t necessarily alter any decisions about the venue. I’ve heard Crewe (whether they get to the final or not) is the leading contender but sure it will all come out by this time next week.

I do think Crawley will go

Are Crawley still the same bent mob that broke all the financial rules to get promoted....Company Registered Office was a shipping container at Gatwick Airport IIRC

They are now owned by some American crypto-currency people or ‘crypto bros’ as those ITK call it. Deeply unpopular with the Crawley fans & it’s been a bit of a circus on and off the pitch down there this season. They could well be another straight through team if they come down. It’s an absolutely awful away day too, the town has zero good pubs or any charm about it. A lot of those soulless London new towns in our league unfortunately. They in contrast get days out in stellar drinking towns like York, Halifax & Alty up here. The North/South divide.

They're coming down 👇

PS. I see Toby has only made the bench for the last couple of games as well.

Yep. Rochdale are done for, just a question of who is joining them. Crawley have a very favourable run in but Hartlepool are the clear form team. I can see Harrogate maybe getting dragged in.

A low quality game but you can only admire our fighting spirit to pull it back for a Desmond. The team as a whole looked off it but once Oyedele (incredibly good technique, a blinding finish) netted you could sense it was on. Sinclair one of those players who can make it happen, not sure how a bloke of his height powered home that header but it was a cracker. For 80 mins we might as well have all been in the pub in the Northern Quarter still it was that bad but we came alive when it mattered. Oldham didn’t have much about them & 2-0 flattered them anyway especially as their first goal was a weird combo of a handball & a foul on Byrne. I can see why none of their fans rate Unsworth if that’s what’s served up every week.

One thing that does need highlighting but I thought their pitch was appalling, far too dry & bumpy it didn’t suit our passing game one bit. Also we can’t talk with our away end really but 600 away fans there was no chance of getting service at half time at the sole open kiosk on the away end. Final gripe Oldham has 5 tram stops but none of them in the same universe as the ground unfortunately.

Anyway, we’ll see them for round 2 next season anyway…

The last games are all about getting ready for next season. To get into the group of genuine play-off contenders we need improvement in every area. Only 3 clubs have conceded more goals and that's with a team who keep possession very well.

2 2 draw.

Yes. We’ve tightened up a bit in recent weeks but our GA column has to improve significantly next season whilst ideally maintaining our well known attacking threat. Start of next season we ideally won’t have such a high turnover of players which should help. Our usual tortoise like start needs to be improved on.

As for tomorrow I reckon a bit of end of season knockabout and a Desmond sounds right. Show Oldham what they could have won in Linney. I see on the FB group we’ve now sold just over 300 tickets, hoping we fetch about 500 over.

I thought that was for teams involved in playoff positions?

Basically BT want to put Wrexham on telly & the slot available was 530 which now means everyone else (even a complete dead rubber like our game) also has to kick off at 530. Good day on the beers for our fans in the SE anyway.

It's a trifle premature to dismiss our visit to Aldershot on the final day of the season as being a 'dead rubber'.

Aldershot are currently languishing merely one position above the relegation zone, five points ahead of Yeovil - whom they happen to play on Good Friday.

Whilst I would expect them to stay up, their erratic form could still place them in jeopardy on 29th April.

Aldershot fresh with their newly poached boss off Kings Lynn beat Yeovil at home tomorrow & the current bottom 4 is done for IMO. Torquay having a decent run but their run in includes Chessy & Wrescam so they’ll go too.

By the way. Does anyone have any idea where the final is due to be played?
Or does it partially depend on who wins the other semi between Crewe and Congleton?
I suspect it might be Nantwich (but it could be Macc couldn't it?)

I also reckon Nantwich. Witton seems to have gone out of favour in comparison now. Playing it at our end of Cheshire would be nice, I’d love it if they played it at the Bower Fold for one but I reckon Nantwich the likeliest. I hear Tue 25 April will be the date.

....had their relegation confirmed yesterday, but another bunch of Kents had their promotion rubber stamped to replace them.

Bye bye Maidstone - hello Ebbsfleet (again !)

Them & moneybags Fylde combined are just about the most tedious league winners from N/S. Have to hope the play offs throw up some more deserving & interesting options.
