Title: New Player Signed
Post by: RageAgainstTheFirstTeam on October 18, 2013, 06:19:12 PM
Not one of the two trialists though!

Altrincham FC are pleased to have signed Stalybridge Celtic midfielder Greg Wilkinson (dob 3 October 1989), who has been at the Bower Fold since February, 2008. Greg played for Celtic as recently as 5 October. In all he made 165 appearances and scored 17 times for Celtic. Whether he is available for tomorrow's game depends on whether his registration is confirmed in time.

Welcome Greg.  Put the effort in and you'll get vocal support you never got at Celtic.

Welcome to Alty Greg.

Hope we can wait to hear the circumstances of his signing and the plans for him from the manager before we heckle it.

I said it was cross at the time, now he plays for us it was a wonder goal:

Looking at the bridge forum it seems he hasn't been happy since the end of last season there.

Most of them seem to think he is a good player with plenty of talent, doesn't always use it so we have to get the best out of him.

Interesting comment by one guy on there about him playing wide when he started:

"I'm sad to see Greg leave us, it seems like only the other day he was making his early appearances for us as a sub who played out wide. A local lad, I know his parents John and Caroline well. Was  a transfer fee involved, or have we lost another of our youth products to an opposing team? He scored some cracking goals especially that one against County"

This is a nice comment as well:

"Without any doubt Gregg was the best. comfortably the classiest player at Celtic when on song,( I agree he's seems to have fell out of favour with JH )

Alty have got a player that will/ can play at a much higher standard, when you see a player shine against a strong City and Utd reserves without any sweat it ,it proved to me that the kid should be playing at a higher standard, good luck to the kid ,seems a nice lad,I will miss him."

Rumours going around the Guiseley forum Danny Boshell coming back to Guiseley has assistant manager?

There would be quite a bit of pressure on him to improve results, hasn't Bower lost 6 out of 6?

Be a blow if he chose to do that...

I suspect this has been planned for a while.  His 24th birthday was just two weeks ago.  If we'd signed him before then we have to pay a fee as he's a youth player.  Wait till he turns 24 and then give two weeks notice of transfer and that would lead to him being registered as an Alty player on the 18th of October.

'one in one' out probably a false alarm

Or rodgers plays in this 3 man back for (whilst we find a new CB) and there we have bosh Moult and Richman for 3 cm so that area needs boosting?

I think it's a different kettle of fish with James. He seems like a guy who just wants to play at as high a level as he can and it would almost certainly require an inhibitive transfer fee shoud he want to leave. I'd be surprised if he wanted to leave, as he is scoring for fun atm and looks happy.

Did we get a fee for Bosh as he was on a contract?
