« on: April 01, 2009, 07:48:54 PM »

Hi, Am coming up for the Grays game ,thinking of booking a Airport hotel instead of the normal drive back south straight after the match, just wondering if anyone could advise of the taxi cost .  Cheers.

From Altrincham town centre to Manchester Airport hotel e.g the Travel Lodge next to the M56 would probably cost you between 7-10 pounds depending if you get a private cab or black cab, will also depend what time you order the cab, peak times are normally a bit more expencive

Get in an Alty hotel, eg The Cresta Court and then you can have a night out too. The cab cost will naturally be the same each way and its not far so if your flight is early there shouldn't be an issue.

Try the Altrincham Lodge (google it).........should be cheap enough.

It's a former travel lodge next to a big pub which does reasonable priced meals and has sport on the telly...you can walk into Alty from there in half an hour or it's 5-10 mins on the bus (frequent service)

Make sure you have a few pints in the Alty bar after the game though

Yes well spotted, didn't read in detail but assumed an airport hotel due to flying up from London City/ Stansted. Makes the idea even more silly then.

I meant anyone considering staying at an airport hotel would not be too bothered about the cost of a taxi.

Stayed at the Cresta Court on a previous visit, decided that as its our last trip up north this season (or ever) would push the boat out and get a Nice Hotel at The Airport, was wondering about taxi costs just to make sure i didnt get ripped off.
Look forward to the visit ,  cheers.

Make sure you don't book in the Britannia Airport Hotel..

Its nowhere near the airport and is based on an East German block of flats from 1968

Historically Taxis at Manchester Airport charge a very high premium for crossing the city of Manchester boundary.
I have a mate who runs a Taxi in Alty. email me and I will give you his number.
