VAL DEPARTS
Altrincham FC have issued the following press release:

Altrincham midfielder Val Owen (left) has decided to leave Moss Lane in a bid to play regular first team football in the twilight of his career. Owen has now recovered from a knee injury that he originally sustained in a pre-season game in July 2007, however with the increased quality in the Altrincham squad that has achieved a top half position in the Blue Square Premier, his chances of regular first team action are limited and he has decided to look for another club. Altrincham manager Graham Heathcote said 'We all need to say a big thank-you to Val, who has been an absolute role model for the four years that he has been with us. He played a massive part in helping the club achieve promotion to the Blue Square Premier in 2005 with two historic goals in the play-off semi-final at Kettering as well as scoring our second in the final at Stoke against Eastbourne Borough'.

Owen made 117 appearances for the Robins scoring nine goals and was a huge favourite with Altrincham fans.

With the current economic challenges, Altrincham are not in a position to replace the former Northwich, Hyde, Hednesford and Halifax midfielder in the short term.

Will he ever be well remembered here!!

Did so much for us. GH says about writing your bit of history and being remembered when you comeback in years to come.

His all round contribution was top drawer but his role in the play off success was unbelievable. He grabbed that Kettering semi final by the scruff of the neck and said "I am playing in the conference next year!". He, along with Eddie completely dominated the play off final too.

Legend (justified).

An absolute hero who's name will go down in the history of Altrincham FC!!! Can't say thankyou enough for what he has done for the club. Must have been dreadful to spend so much time injured over the last couple of years. Good luck Val, hope you find a club and enjoy the latter stages of your career.

Agree with everything already said in this thread. Val has been immense in his time at Alty. I hope he finds a decent club and stays injury free.

Good luck to Val. Will always be an Alty legend for his efforts in that season, and was a key player in the side that stayed up in the first season.

Greatest moment - BPA away.89th minute,Val with the ball 30 yards out.Cries from the fans of  'Don't shoot Val'.Val shoots, ball goes in top corner, fans go mental. And without that, none of the recent history will have happened.

As has been said earlier! Val Owen... Alty Legend! Theres a thread elsewhere on this forum discussing alty favourites, val is definatley one of mine. What and Val and Eddie did for us in that play off push was immense, think you could probably argue that neither has been the same since.

Thankyou Valentine for everything you've done for us!

Good luck Val.
Val joined Altrincham after a 'lay-off' from football. After a period in the reserves he fought his way back into first team football and went on to be a major contributor to Altrincham's return to the national stage..........a role model to all young footballers

If I saw every alty player put Val's effort levels in I would expect us to be in the football league.

An absolute inspiration to young players and the hero of our famous day in Stoke!

Good luck!
