Title: AFC Fylde Match Thread..
Post by: Alty Dave on August 27, 2023, 08:43:19 AM
Quick turnaround, let's hope our lads can recover quickly and not too many injuries. Kosylo knock may keep him side lined. Shame we don't have a bit more depth in the squad as we have a few injuries at present.

Can see possibly Angus starting and Linney playing wider.

Should be a good turnout from Alty, 3 of us going.

My first game since matchday one and can't wait. I see we've shifted between 400-500 tickets.

Parky can select whichever 11 he wants; he obviously knows what he's doing.

I couldn't attend on Saturday, however it's clear from the highlights that Dior was making some great runs from 10 - with Regan leading the line really well and Cricky offering an outlet on the left and cutting inside as as we've seen him do so well in the past.

Any reason why we're advocating for something different here?

I have no idea how Parky and Neil don't see when we look vulnerable and too deep.
We should have gone attacking at 2 nil,but we brought on another CM.
That meant 5 defenders and 4 CM's on the pitch. We never look organised in that formation and with so many defensive players on the pitch, we looked disjointed.
We are not good at sitting back.
Brougt on Amaluzor and CCC too late. Shouldn't have been in that position of chasing the points again.
They were not a good side, 2 points dropped.

F-T 3-3

I think the subs should have come on a little earlier. Not at 2-2 when Flyde have bossed the second.

Wilson had to go off injured, but the inability to see out a game cost us again.

Still, unbeaten with 10points from 6 games.

+ Chesterfield came from 2 down to win in the 94th min against Hartlepool.

A frustrating finish but the more bizarre incident was the double penalty - don't think I've ever seen anything like it. Dior's goal was another stunner and, overall, we edged it but we were hanging on by the end with some dogged defending. I do question Ross' decision to hoof all his added time goal kicks so far up the pitch that they went straight to the opposition keeper. Meant we struggled to retain possession late on. A point drops us to sixth but I'm still on cloud nine. What a difference from last season this unbeaten start to the season is.  :D

Funny old display from Ethan Ross - he's obviously saved the (first) penalty but I agree on the kicking - all it does is invite the pressure straight back - and he's got to come for those crosses. We'd have all been critical of Ollie Byrne in those situations.

James Jones beaten AGAIN down the byline, and pure inexperience from Wilson who decided that he wanted an absolute eternity to clear that saved penalty.

I can accept moments of brilliance, but the softness of our goals kills me.

Sigh, when will we learn?
Considering we had 11 men behind the ball for most of that second half, Fylde seemed to find space remarkably easily.
Another point gained but should have been 3.

God knows if the pens were pens or the offsides were offsides but we probably got what we deserved for defending too deep and aimless punts forward to nobody. It's happening too often to be mere bad luck.

Also, why do officials keep adding on a minute to the added time when we are playing?

There was an injury (Wilson I think) just as the board went up, so there would have to be an extra added minute for that.

Should have won....although did not deserve to win.
Team set up too defensively, yet still struggled to prevent them getting forward. Subs too late in my opinion and poor game management after our third.....their keeping receiving the ball from our keeper who was then allowed to dribble to almost half way and launch ball into our area.

Four point's from 6 not a bad return though

A big fan of Ross but his ability to release the ball and ensure we ran down the clock was awful… hoof ball hoof ball, oh and when it comes back hoof again!

James Jones has cost us two goals there and done again down the wing, giving away the pen and done again for their header. He just crumbles under pressure.

Subs were brought on too late… should have changed at 60 mins. Thought Osbourne started slow but grew into the game and thought Baines was doing well getting forward linking with forward play and protecting well.

2 points lost and a sh*t trip home now!

Far too defensive throughout the game. We were lucky to be 2 up at half time, but at that point we should have been able to see it out against a poor Fylde side. Just very strange that we seemed so happy to sit deep from the first minute and let them dominate possession, that was very much a case of 2 points dropped.

Definitely a case of mixed feelings.

Fylde certainly deserved a point, but having been 2-0 and 3-2 up respectively, it's disappointing that we have been unable to secure a victory.

After a nondescript opening 30 minutes, some timely poaching from Linney (although the goalkeeper should have done better with Angus' initial shot) and a splendid piece of finishing from Angus gave us a somewhat flattering lead.

It was frustrating early in the second half to see Marriott replace Linney, as it seemed to signal that we were surrendering the initiative to the team who possess the worst defensive record in the league.

James Jones was done again for their first penalty and then outjumped by Omotayo for their second goal.

The penalty awarded for the apparent foul on Amaluzor did look a trifle generous, to my eyes.

All afternoon, we had looked vulnerable when defending crosses and it was no great surprise when Obi duly outjumped Cooper to nod home their third goal in the dying embers of the game.

I hope that the injury suffered by George Wilson is not serious.

Barely deserved even one point . We were second best most of the game and i thought Fylde played really well. Ah well , still unbeaten and tomorrows another day.

Yeah I don't think Fylde were bad either - kept the ball on the deck, won the midfield battle, moved the ball into the wide areas where we struggled to stop the crosses coming in, and then they found joy going direct when they needed to (like Dagenham did).

I think Fylde will ultimately be OK this season, they were much better than York.

Thank God we were clinical for two minutes of the first half.

Following Marcus Dinanga's move to Gateshead he immediately demonstrated that he was, indeed, possessing of the goal-scoring talent that we had all thought he was carrying when he signed for us.

He was not a good fit at Alty and the barrage of criticism he received from our fans (myself included) led to me vow that in future I would only write positive things about the players and their performance otherwise nothing at all.

I have nothing at all to say about today's performance except that I will happily take the point as an early Birthday gift.

Didn't see today's game but an observation from the Chesterfield game.  The next corner after Grimes scored I think it was Kossy marking him? If I'm right then we seriously need some work on our defensive coaching

Think it was Banks who was tasked to mark Grimes.

As others have said above, James Jones has struggled in the right side CB position of the three but again it is down to us not looking comfortable in that formation.  Joey Jones wasn't great either.

Start every game in our favoured formation and if we haven't got the players then look to get more players in.

Looking back, pleased with a point on the road, fantastic following by Alty. Nice modern ground, good experience, traffic heading home was a tad busy, but that was to be expected.

Scoring three goals when creating little, show how we are being more clinical, Never seen two penalties given away in such short time. Need to learn from that.

we do need to play our first chose team, unless players are injured of course.Stop showing these teams so much respect by changing our formation.

Having just listened to Phil's take on yesterday's performance at Mill Farm and having thought about the whole Awayday experience again I offer the following positives:-

The travelling Alty support in the Away End was a wonder to behold from where I was sitting especially when we scored.  I could see that the players were made up with it whilst their stewards were remarkably not.

This was our best ever result against Fylde.  Granted we have only ever played them 4 times but look at how poor we have been

First meeting NLN (H) LOST 0-6
Second meeting NLN (A) LOST 1-4
Third Meeting FAC (A) LOST 1-2
Forth Meeting NL (A) DRAW 3-3

If this pattern of results is to continue then we should beat them at Moss Lane in the return fixture.

The game was full of incident and I enjoyed the day out.  The chips were tasty too.  They were sort of a cross between a chip and a small roastie.

The support was brilliant yesterday ,a great turnout of Robins young and err not so . Looked at least 500 ish , anyone know how many ?
The stewards around where i was were very friendly and chatty all game , don't know about the others .

Just watched the highlights, as one sided game as i remember.

Can't argue with any of the penalty decisions.
Why Wilson allowed the ball to bounce for his foul us beyond me

He's a kid and he's still learning. He's not disgraced himself since he's come in. I think he's definitely got potential.

I really enjoyed the day bar the final goal . They overall had the much better play so I concur with Phil and I will take the point

The pies were amazing with lovely gravy

The support was amazing and very vocal

A few people got wound up by the stewards I don't pay them any attention and focus on the footy

Up the reds

He grew into the game and looks a very  good prospect, but that was a very basic error

You're right of course RiS but he'll learn from it and I bet he won't do it again.
