Title: Buxton game subject to pitch inspection (GAME NOW OFF)
Post by: Paul Cain's Chip Pan on July 18, 2011, 03:21:29 PM
From official site:

BUXTON GAME
Because of the relentless rain of the last few days, Buxton have indicated that Tuesday evening's friendly against Altrincham is subject to a pitch inspection tomorrow morning. As soon as a decision is reached it will be posted here, hopefully by 11am.
If the game goes ahead, admission will be £7 for adults, £4 for pensioners and £2 for under-16s.

Surely its a case of just being cautious,if water cant run off a ground thats nearly 1000ft  above sea level then we better start building a new ark.

As Buxton is the highest town in England, it's not surprising it's also just about the wettest. I'm not optimistic to be quite honest.

At least you can tell it's still summer in Buxton as it's rain and not snow that may lead to the match being called off.

BBC forecast for Buxton omorrow is,....

Some sunshine but also further showers, these turning heavy, thundery and slow-moving during the afternoon with a risk of hail, too. Feeling pleasantly warm in any sunshine and light winds.

So if the pitch is OK at 1pm it could still be at risk. I will call you at 5pm if its not off by then.

Not necessarily!June 1975 - County Championship: Derbyshire v Lancashire at Buxton - 2nd day called off due to snow. Dried up in time for the final day & Lancs won by a distance (Lancs 477-5; Derbys 42 & 87).

I knew when posting that someone would rise to the challenge and confirm the match in question.

I must admit I didn't think it was played in June !

There are also Vauxhall Motors vs. Stockport, and Northwich vs. Barrow for those who still fancy going to a game.

I'm genuinely gutted about this, was really looking forward to it!

I think 2 or 3 of us are heading to Irlam V Trafford for their game tonight. There coul also be a couple of spaces in the car from the Timperley area if anybody is at a loose end and fancies it.
