Believe or not they cound't field a team due to injury's in the squad as most the reserve played in the last carling cup match so hence there match on the thursday postponed.

I find that utterly bizarre given the amount of players they have at their disposal!

The one saving grace about all this is that, now the fixture problem has now become country wide and not just isolated to a specific area.

ALL clubs will be in the same position with regards to fixture pile-ups.

This is where squad size is important. Clubs with bigger squads can rest players.

I suggest all the fixture backlog is cleared over one weekend at Old Trafford with teams playing matches one after the other.

This will be a real money spinner and will attract huge media interest as a two day conference BSP football festival.

Then they could host the play off semis and and the final on the saturday after.....bit like those school five a side competitions we used to have where we played 7 games in a morning.....mmmmmarvellous jumpers for goal posts etc

In 1981/2 the season wasn't extended and Alty played Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday in the first week in May.

I lived in London and the only game I din't go to was Barrow away!

Thats the season i went to a double header at loftus Road (astroturf back then) on a Sunday in January - APL Barnet 0 AP Leamington 0, FA Trophy Hendon 5 Taunton 1
There were only four matches played in the whole country the previous day and one was FA Trophy Alty 1 Nuneaton 0
