Altrincham FC First Team / Re: If we lose all our remaining games.....

.

I would give Diego Sedoc a game today, it can't do any harm can it

I expect he would need international clearance.

I want to know who replaces him. ...

I also want to know what happens to the share holding he had? Does he have to forfeit some of these shares or forced to sell them? I would imagine they need to be available to a new board member.

Not sure as to the answer of some of your questions, but resigning from the board normally does not trigger a requirement to sell shares (not even sure if he held any shares anyway)

However, who would want to replace him?? Alty FC is on the way down..these things tend to be cyclical in life, but anybody smart in business knows that a down cycle can easily lead to insolvency. So who wants to risk being a director of a fairly high profile entity that goes bankrupt. I am not saying Alty will go bankrupt...its just a logical consequence of any business that is failing for whatever reason. Some survive, others don't. I think we will survive, even after relegation this season, but honestly I cannot be sure.

So then there are a few types of people who would volunteer for director. Maybe a representative of a major sponsor, who is fairly secure in their own career and don't care about the risk of a bankruptcy on their CV. Or a fan representative (can't see this happening, but who knows). Anybody with money to invest almost certainly won't do it unless they gain control. Or an idiot who does not understand risk. Or nobody at all.

Did I miss any options???

What you have failed to grasp, is that the Club is a long way from bankruptcy and is in good financial health. That is part of the frustration most people have with the Board, we run a good business but the footballing side has failed dismally. We could do with more cash but then most clubs do. We cut our cloth accordingly and this will be no different next season in the Evostick. The Board deserve praise for the work they have done in eradicating the debt and creating a small profit in recent years and as a shareholder I see the financial statements, but they have grown stale, made some terrible decisions recently and need a new Chairman at the helm to provide fresh impetus into the Club.

Exactly. An excellent post.
The board are not evil or incompetent - far from it - but have prioritised the non-footballing side with the consequences we have seen, despite successes off the field of play.
As the core of this club, this "business",  is its first team, then, yes, we do need a change to concentrate our attention on this.

It looks like he (Sedoc) is 22, and was playing for Koninklijke Haarlemsche FC in the Dutch Topklasse Sunday (level 3) last season, but he only made a couple of appearances, and was usually on the bench. I can't track him down anywhere this season. There are also a couple of clips of him on YouTube showing his pace.

Good luck to him. As has been said, he was a good shot stopper, but you never felt he was in command of his area. I had hoped he would stay on and work on improving his game, as he has showed potential, and I was very happy with him as a cover goalkeeper, but it's not to be.

My first thoughts were that we need somebody else in to challenge Tim Deasy, but then I wondered why, as it is not as if we are fighting to stay up, so we might as well save on a wage.

After a conversation at yesterday's match, I have had a look through old tables for the most goals conceded, and, as far as I can see, it's 146 from 42 league matches in 1928-29. We only finished 3rd bottom that season.

At least, that's one record we should (I stress should) be able to avoid breaking.

906
I'm really hoping we can stay up ...

Next season

The good news is that the FA's step 3 reorganisation, due at the end of 2017-18, when the 3 divisions of 24 clubs each become 4 of 22, means that only 1 club will get relegated from each division with several being promoted from step 4 (I.e. Evo-Stik Div 1 North etc.).

Surely we can finish 23rd.... Can't we?

Apologies to George's Moustache. I had obviously read Les Spencer as Lee.
I hope it was an interesting diversion, at least. (searching for a blushing emoji).

Long after the Cheshire County League had finished, but Lee Spencer played one match for us in the FA Cup as an emergency goalkeeper in 1993 when we lost to Accrington Stanley. Regular goalkeeper Tim Clarke didn't  want to get cuptied and was about to leave anyway so Gerry Quinn had Wayne Baker, who had played the previous season, lined up, but he was either injured or unavailable at short notice, so he brought in Lee Spencer from Old Alts of the Manchester League.

If I remember correctly he wasn't tall at all and it was another of those dispiriting days when we lost miserably 2-0 at home to a team from a lower division who themselves were in the middle of an injury crisis, and had a player wearing a sling on the bench.

Fair play to him, I remember him standing with us (quite balanced with a snack in each hand) and joining in with the singing and shouting at officials etc.  However, have I got it wrong that some Alty fans had a bit of a chant at him and he got a bit upset and walked off?  Maybe I dreamed that bit?

I think you may have got Tony Sullivan and Tony Kelly confused. I can remember Tony Sullivan, who was pretty large himself, although not in Tony Kelly's category, singing along in the last game of the season in April 2003.

Blackpool and Coventry are examples of clubs who are in a lot worse position and they haven't started new clubs so definitely a no from me.

Actually, there is one in Coventry. Coventry United are currently 7th in the Midland League Premier Division (North West Counties Premier equivalent), ground-sharing with Coventry Sphinx, where they have an average attendance of 88. That figure, and the fact you haven't heard of them, does back up your argument very strongly, though.

As someone who's veering between the second and third categories, (ambivalent and losing faith in the board) depending largely on what happens until the end of the season and then the managerial appointment,  I still don't think it's time for a phoenix club.

The difference with Vics and many other clubs is that, while the board have made poor decisions, with the benefit of hindsight,, they have been made in what they they thought were the best interests of the club, and that is completely different to the likes of Rushe and Connett.

So, I agree with York Alty, for now. I hope we don't have a fans' club, with the proviso that they may change depending on what happens next season - let alone the problems of finding a ground and a league to play in as the North West Counties League is full, for once, this year.

912
I could be wrong, but didn't Nicky state that MD was a big reason he returned to Alty?

I think he did, but Harrogate's move to full-time status next season would surely have been unwelcome to him at this stage in his career and with his good day job (and could also be construed as constructive unfair dismissal if anyone tried to argue about contracts).

With regard to the managerial appointment, as  Matt says, it's certainly not the time for a sentimental decision, or for someone to just inherit the job, although there is also no point in doing anything this season.

I didn't go so can't comment too much, but obviously an excellent result in a tie which looked like such a potential banana skin. I also liked the look of the team - pretty strong, but with one or two experimental changes - which I thought was right for this competition. As one of those experimental changes, Laurence Taylor, seemed to have another excellent game, it must be approaching time for him to appear on the bench for a league game.

According to FA Fulltime, Simon Richman played for the reserves in their 3-1 win at Styal, although it doesn't indicate whether he completed the match, so I would expect him to be involved, subject to no reaction. As Laurence Taylor did so well at Macclesfield, I hope he will play a part, too.

I hate to be negative, but we surely all know we are going down.

Maybe Buzz and co can get us ready for an attempt at an immediate return - there have certainly been signs of that at Blyth and at FC United - but I really don't see how any new manager could make a difference for this season.  I think the board's decision that we carry on as we are, getting the odd point here and there, is a strong hint of he they see the future.
