HT: 1-0 but AFC fortunate both to be ahead and to have eleven men on pitch after keeper took out Senior 40 yards from goal but was not dismissed presumably because a defender had got back but arguably the offence itself merits a straight red.

Always struggled with this.  If a keeper takes out a forward surely there have to be two defenders behind him to avoid the straight red.  If you are the last defender there is usually still a keeper to beat but it's still red.  So the keeper has one defender behind him that just replaces the keeper and off he goes...no?

It's not necessarily about the number of players, in this case behind the keeper. The ajudication to be made is whether the challenge prevented an obvious goalscoring opportunity i.e. Is the player more likely to score than not. This does not preclude a red card for the challenge if it's considered serious enough on it's own merits

I emailed the above last night to the Dons commentary team.
They actually took the time to reply so fair play to them. Most would never bother. Posted their response below

Hello,

I've read your email about last night's coverage of the trophy fixture and wished to add my thoughts.

I personally wasn't happy with my, and WDON's, performance last night. The game started badly with so many aimless balls from both sides that there was little on pitch to raise a great deal of interest. I had no idea that that many people would be on air, we usually have 2 with an occasional third and I didn't have the understanding I would normally have with my colleague and it all help to fragment the coverage. It was quite tough to identify the players, I couldn't clearly see the teamsheet, which also can contain numbering errors.

I apologise for what happened at times. I wasn't happy with last night and will be working to improve in future.

Please feel free to critique, we're fundamentally fans off the terrace but it doesn't stop me wanting to improve our service.

Thanks

Geoff Hawley
