What happened on Tuesday was that Lee finally abandoned 4 4 2. James Lawrie is not an out and out striker, he plays behind the target man, just in front of two holding midfielders. For me that's the way forward in this league. It's not always pretty to watch, but it provides more protection for the midfield. In the same way, Simon is not a real winger, so he tends to drop back into midfield easily. We matched Macc in midfield on Tuesday, and I don't think that was a coincidence.
That being the case, there should be no reason why Cav can't slot back into midfield, or Ryan chosen ahead of Nicky - just as long as we don't go back to the gung ho approach, or we'll get battered in the next two games. I still think we should be looking at a new keeper and another pacey option up front.
