Sadly it's not been painted red and renamed the robins retreat, the new owners have decided to call it the good catch, which it would have to be considering we are about 60 miles from the nearest viable fishing grounds for cod.....
-
A damn shame, the best chippy for miles and miles
-
FFS. They'd better not mess with the way they fry the fish - damn near perfect.
-
What about Grove Lane in Timperley? Proper fish, not like that rubbish in Hull.
-
Wasnt 'Robins Retreat' it's original name?

caught plenty in king Georges, in the late seventies it was stuffed with fiish.
lso caught my first duck there, talking of which, the duck pond on stamford park is the one that intrigues me, some big carp swimming around amidst the bread wrappers and shopping trollies.
-
remember playing in the duck pond in stamford park all,my mates and myself, untill the park keeper caught us and threw us out.

I visited King George's as an angler in my younger days during the early 70s but again I never caught anything there. Best fishing spots productive wise were Lymm Dam and a pond in Appleton High Leigh, not far from the old aerodrome. Bridgewater canal was ok but nothing spectacular.
-
Anyway, pleased to report that the name may have changed, but the quality of the fish and chips is still up there with the best.

Statham Pools at lymm were good
