From the main site - the prem have given the clubs in the conference £1million.

If they split it 50/25/25 BSP/BSN/BSS I make that about £20k for us.

Better than nowt I guess!

Aye a welcome boost. Is this a sign that the TV deal with ESPN we kept hearing was 'very close' is not going to happen after all?

The ESN deal is off..

This is quite the oddest thing I have heard for years.

I'm going to have a lot of words to eat about how evil the premier league is.

Correct - ESPN have said the sums don't add up and aren't going to do it.

Blue Square League chiefs are now believed to be looking at
the possiblity streaming some live games over the internet.

Proportunally we would benefit more than other teams I believe.  As we would have only had 1 or 2 games live on sultana to be given a straight cut of the million we gain more in proportion than say cambridge or wrexham who would have expected much more sultana coverage.  I know its less than we would have got but a very good gesture.

Obviously any cash is welcome I'm not getting dewy eyed over the Premier League's gesture. Here's some interesting stats (I think the sums are right) :-

£1m as a proportion of their annual TV rights deal equates to 0.17%. (£1m as a % of £1.78bn over 3 years)

0.17% of the Setanta deal (£80k) is £134.82 (about 2 bucket collections)

If there was a 50/25/25 split between BSP/N/S, our cut would be £20,833, less than the average weekly wage for a Premiership player.

It might be less than the average weekly wage for a Premiership footballer but it will cover the best part of a months wages for our whole squad so no complaints from me!

Indeed.  I still think its just odd.

I have this vision on Richard Scudamore getting out his massive wallet and saying "listen..I know you've been struggling..here's a million..get yourself something nice and something for the kids"

I dont suppose for one minute that teams like Salisbury, Chester, or Northwich will be giving the Taxman any of this unexpected windfall .. They should be made to use it to pay off their debts.

Distance traveller is almost getting to my thoughts on this subject . Yes it is a fine gesture by the big boys, but look at the downside. All those clubs that have budgeted for, and been spending tv money that did not materialise will be able to get out of the hole they have been digging a little more easily. It will not encourage them to stop spending what they have not got and cannot afford. It should be divided on the understanding that debts are paid before spending on players, grounds etc.

Spot on both.
