www.altrinchamfc.co.ukSTU OUT FOR SIX WEEKS!
Joint Press & Media Office, John Edwards, writes that "Altrincham have been dealt another serious injury setback after it emerged that in-form keeper Stuart Coburn (right) faces six weeks out with a damaged groin. Alty's record appearance-maker hobbled off after being injured in the build-up to a controversial late winner for Dover on Saturday.
While there was widespread anger in the Alty camp at the referee's failure to stop play and allow treatment for Coburn, it turned to dismay when the extent of the Robins' number one's injury became clear.
Tim Deasy (left) will step up from the bench for his Vanarama National League debut for Alty against Tranmere at The J Davidson Stadium on Saturday, while the club will look into the possibility of another loan signing.
'As Stuart came to punch the ball clear, and planted his foot down, the force that went through his calf gave him a problem,' said manager Lee Sinnott. 'We're sorting out a scan for him, but the feeling is it will be six weeks. He left the field straightaway. There was no way he could continue, and I just hope he won't be out any longer than that. We'll have to wait to ascertain the full extent of it.
'Fortunately, we've got Tim Deasy ready to take over. Tim showed his many qualities in our pre-season games, but, of course, there's the issue of having someone on the bench. We are looking at the possibilities in terms of options for goalkeeping cover, but it's not easy. For instance, you go to a League club and ask to take one of their young keepers, and you not only have to pay the wages, they expect him to start games.'
There was mixed injury news among Alty's outfield players. Nicky Clee is being assessed by medical staff after a groin problem sustained at Witton in pre-season flared up again at Dover, but left-back Adam Griffin is hopeful of being passed fit for Saturday. Griffin jarred his back at Dover, but the injury has shown signs of settling down over the past 24 hours.
*More from Lee on Stuart's injury, and how Dover were allowed to play on and score what proved the winning goal while he was on the floor needing treatment, will appear here, on the club's official website, tomorrow".
