Far from unexpected, but seems to be a very good signing indeed. Lots of experience.

Welcome Ben, hope you enjoy your time at Alty. Ben is a quality player with vast experience and will hopefully be at least as good if not better than Ali Smith now he's moved up to EFL.

Brief player history:
33yr old midfielder Ben's early career(2006-09) was with WBA, Newcastle Blue Star, Morpeth Town, & Ilkeston...

2009 onward he played for several EFL clubs including Derby, Rotherham, Fulham, Ipswich, Preston, Oldham, Grimsby, Tranmere, Gillingham, & Morecambe before joining Alty...
