Title: Tony Gray
Post by: MarpleAlty on April 28, 2015, 12:34:39 PM
Deciding his future in the next week or so, hasn't ruled out staying with Telford - but has specifically cited his 2-hour commute as being a key factor, and I believe he's North West based.

Halifax one club rumoured to be interested, but if (as he says...) money isn't the main factor as he's 31, surely if we have any ambition we must be in for him...?

Pehaps gray got better with age never impressed me till this season and in the pub before the southport game one of their supporters was very surprised he scored so many but fair play to him all them goals in a poor side is some going

Good shout, although he was famously ridiculously overpaid at Bury (£3k+) so I wonder whether this would still (to a certain extent) be the case.

Walshaw has scored 11 in 26 apparently played games on the wing because Harrogate have a shocking manager maybe his season hasn't been that bad considering

Why would we re-sign Walshaw? If his personal circumstances haven't changed, there isn't even a conversation to have.

Wally was top scorer, but as mentioned,  only played in 26 games. Maybe he will see what happens to Guiseley.

I agree. Wally made a sound decision for him and his family.

If his lads a year older and he feels ready for it then there's no reason for him not to want to play conference football?

I'm not sure Sinnott would go back for him. He could do and he'd be better than Gillespoe but who knows.

We've retained a decent starting XI and one extra defender.  We need to bring in 7 more, at least 4 of whom would relegate those retained to the bench.  My priority order would be:

Striker
Right Midfield
Central Midfield
Keeper
Left Back (ideally versatile enough to cover elsewhere in back 4)
Central Mid
Striker (or defensive cover CB / RB if new left back can't do it and we'll have to use Swift as 3rd / 4th striker behind Reeves, new boy and Lawrie)

replaces 7 who've left from the squad at the start of last season - Williams x2, Gillespie, Perry, Cav, Parton, Wilkinson.  It's a lot of new faces but we've lost 7 from a small squad so we need at least that many.

I like this game...

Striker - Tony Gray / Adam Boyes if Guiseley don't go up (or both, as Boyes can cover at LW since Clee's fitness is questionable)
Right Midfield - Joe Thompson? (I assume to be released at Bury, former Football League apprentice of the year, promising at Rochdale but has lost his way a bit since a cancer scare)
Central Midfield - George Thomson would be a wonderful signing, hope it's feasible
Keeper - Steven Drench if Guiseley don't go up / John Danby at BPA

Not sure on the rest, perhaps Tom Davies if he gets released at Fleetwood for CB, leaving Leather to cover the full back positions

This football manager lark is easy

Drench lives nearer here than guiseley I'd ask regardless if they go up disagree about leather being full back cover I maybe in minority but he is are best centre half I'd be happy see Boyes and gray and I know little about the others wide players who are good in conf north rothray brooksby and stjuste but I don't know what funds we have and agree we need another defender

Montgomery at Telford would be well worth a look.

I would have concerns about the attitude of a player that has allegedly refused to play for his manager - whether it was Kittrick or not.

Thompson was a class act in the pre-season game he played against is just before his cancer problems. Definitely worth a look if he's available but if he'll drop down to this level then I think he'll go back to tranmere or stick with southport where he's on loan at the minute.

Maybe but both boshell and walshaw fell out with kittrick and they were superb alty signings I'm not sure deacy is that amazing anyway
