Why does this exist?

More precisely, why did it exist on Saturday?

Its an area that seperates both sets of supporters it was extended on saturday like has been for all big game it was also there to give people the chance to gat out of the way if we had scored i:e stop them getting crushed agaisnt any walls or barriers. Look at Northwichs segrgation policey when we played there i tell you now it was not very nice to be a steward that day.
Believe it or not the extended sterile area policy was suggested by Alty supporters.

If it is required to simply keep fans separate is the large corner area between the Chequers End and the end of the Popular Side sufficient for this task? Also when it became apparent (about thirty seconds in) that the Aldershot supporters had simply come to lounge in the sun why wasn't it removed?

The crush issue is an important one, especially given the amount of youngsters in the crowd, but did it really need to be as large as it was on Saturday?

In my far from expert opinion it was rather unnecessary.

Leading up to kick off and when getting off the coach the away fans were heard singing going down going down rather than tempt fate i kept extended sterile in, I agree could have probably been removed as the away fans were excellent especially the congo in the second half and never sang the song again throughout the entire match. I might have took unnessary precautions but its better to be safe than sorry.
I try and go with the attitude for every match that i would like everyone in the ground to enjoy themselves but this is not always the case.
When i Saw Peter Hennerly had his drum with him i was unsure what to do untill he told me his intentions.

Just a point on the matter if i may?

is the "official segregated area" now not deemed a safe enough distance for supporters to stand by the relevant authorities? not to be funny but the peice of tape is rather useless. if people want to break through it when we score they will do its not a decent barrier, as has been proven at games last season. even the few young teenagers were the other side of it saturday, makes somewhat of a mockery of it all.

please dont take this as a slant at our stewards as it isnt, 99% of the time they are excellent!
