Not sure it was a red card though

Agreed, I think we'd have been fuming if it had been the other way - but we'll take it, and we made the most of it too - had plenty go against us this season too.

York fans forum gives Mitch glowing references. Lots of other players should go instead.

The only detractions seem to be that there's more gifted footballers out there - but that's absolutely not what we're signing him for - and let's face it, he's got to be better than Joey Jones.

Clearly something's gone on behind the scenes for his departure to be announced in such a quiet manner - in normal circumstances I think we'd have given him a bit more of a send off.

Ultimately he was nowhere near good enough - it's as simple as that, harsh as it may sound.

Good luck to him, hopefully he establishes himself a little further down the pyramid.
Not sure that a player who managed 1 season deserves a send off? That aside, I really hoped that as a local lad he’d do well for us. It just wasn’t to be. Hope he moves on and makes a success of it somewhere else. Not Macc of course though.

OK, maybe 'send off' is a strong phrase but certainly more than a footnote to another signing.

Sounds like he has a similar game to Isaac. Ideal.

Welcome Mitch and good luck!

I've decided to give up on providing my own thoughts seeing as I:

(a) thought a Tuesday postponement might be good for the lads; and
(b) would have dropped Alex Newby due to his more recent flat form

I do see the merits of both systems - regardless of which we pick, I think Matty Kosylo needs to be dropped down to the bench again now, we can't have him picking up bookings every first half. So expect him to feature in the National League's team of the week come Sunday afternoon...

Whether that means Dan Mooney having a go from the start in a 4231, or Roscoe coming into the back line and having Alex/Justin running off CCC, I've no thoughts either way.

A couple of questions:

- how come Lewis Baines was the captain last night, instead of Elliott Osborne who had worn it previously?

- secondly, where were the fans? Such a shame so many stayed away and missed last night's goalfest.

Very impressed with George Wilson - I did think he was being introduced to the fold too soon - and we can't ignore the fact that York would probably make most midfielders look like Modric in his prime - however the game could only have done wonders for him and a few other lads.

I wouldn't normally say this, but perhaps the lads could do with a postponement to properly re-group.
on the other hand.......
😁 I know what you meant.
..

I do come up with some right guff on here sometimes - in fairness at the time it looked like the weather in the lead up to the game was going to be atrocious.

York are just the tonic, aren't they? We all felt we paid them too much respect at their place, and based on that showing I'll be staggered if they don't go down.

Hopefully they've played a few of our lads into a bit of form, and I'm glad Parky took the decision to hook Matty because going down to ten again would have been an absolute disaster for our energy levels.

Any news on Max Haygarth... have we signed him as a free agent? I've got him on Football Manager, he's class.

Let's face it, we were never going to carry on that blistering run of form to the end of the season - even Chesterfield have had quite a dramatic drop in form.

There was always going to be a bad patch of form somewhere, so I'm clinging to the positive that we timed ours really well and we're going to come roaring into the playoffs with fresh momentum.

One can hope!

What's the deal with Dan Mooney?

Unused substitute last couple of games... surely if we're dead on our feet you play one of the fresher lads?

Given that Alex Newby's form hasn't been great, I'd also bring Dan in on the right wing - Kossy on the left.

I think it's pretty clear the budget's run out for this season, sadly.

Was nice while it lasted, and perhaps one of my previous posts had the huge benefit of hindsight (i.e. signing players we didn't REALLY need) - but there will be a lot of learnings from this season, and we're still heading in the right direction year on year (last year flirting around the edge of the playoffs, this year actually being in them).

As long as we edge slightly further forwards each season and re-invest in the squad wisely (especially if a good bid for a player comes in), then so be it.

Some of the decision making this season has been shocking:

- not taking a game in that FA Cup weekend, where we could have played Hartlepool when they were a very different prospect to the one we played - and thus relieving this heavy period of one midweek game

- not giving the Trophy a go as a result

- taking expensive punts on players that weren't necessarily hugely needed at the time we got them (Crankshaw, Mooney) that could have gone to better causes now we truly need it

- I hope to God I'm proven wrong... but hanging fire on Alex Newby for a bit longer...?

- who knows... maybe we weren't that keen on getting the Southend game played either (although I'd be amazed if that wasn't just Southend causing mischief

- but the biggest was throwing the baby out with the bathwater after the Aldershot defeat - we all accepted that was an off day against a dangerous team, but everything that's followed has been dreadful.

I don't think CCC is best used up top at all.

Justin Amaluzor will create more problems.
