There really are not enough words to describe the effect Geoff Goodwin has had on our football club!
Amidst everything else, the way our club is run makes us all proud to be Alty supporters.
Many thanks for saving and progressing our club.

I don't think the comments were embarrassing - everyone is entitled to their view. Those of us who live well out of the Alty area cannot get to the number of games we would like, but that does not mean there is any less feeling or emotion about the club, or that we have any less right to express an opinion.
That said, I think the comments are wrong, because I have a different opinion entirely.
2 years ago, around the Lewes game, this forum was full of people saying GH should resign and I remember being part of a minority saying he needs to stay. I am in that same minority now, for a number of reasons ;
1. We are only 8 games in - I understand we have some catching up to do, but a couple of wins and everything looks different. I know none of us can see where that win is going to come from right now, but it will and that is when our season takes off.
2. Plenty of teams have started the opposite to us (Tamworth/Southport) who will be in the relegation mix come the end of the season. We had a very tough first few games, and confidence is low because of those results. Things will change in my view!
3. I don't subscribe to the view that there is going to be a queue half way down Moss Lane of people who can do half as good a job - this is not the plum job some of us want to think of it to be.
If there was a question of GH's commitment then that is a different matter, but his statement late last week has put such fears to bed.
Football is all about opinions, and these are mine!!!!!!

Apology accepted Sledge thank you - you definitely did not hear bad language though (not from me at least).
For what it is worth, from my point of view, I hope you do not go bust - I could not bring myself to support your club whilst Peake has anything to do with you, but do not wish going bust on any set of football fans!

Sledge - please do let me know what language I used in front of my 8 year old son - not 1 swear word came out of my mouth, I know for a fact!!!!!!! I saw the FGR fan deliberately dig his elbows in to me as I passed by and reacted, but no language!!!!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Thank You
« on: September 14, 2009, 07:59:59 PM »
A very big thank you to all of those that posted kind comments on here about our dad, John Murray, and to those of you that e'mailed us with your kind wishes.
Thank you also to the supporters and officials that attended the funeral on Friday. Dad would have been delighted and proud.
A special thank you to Graham Heathcote for giving up part of his day, the day before a home game, to attend the funeral. That would have meant a lot to dad.
There were several mentions of Altrincham FC in the service, as it was such a big part of dad's life, and the flowers were red and white for only 1 obvious reason.

Altrincham FC First Team / John Murray Funeral
« on: September 02, 2009, 05:43:50 PM »
Firstly, many sincere thanks for all the very kind postings on the below thread. Our mum, especially, has been very comforted by all the very kind comments.
Altrincham Football Club was massively important to our dad for so many years, and he would have been so proud to read the many comments.
The funeral will be at 12.30pm on Friday 11th September 2009, at Walton Lea Crematorium in Warrington. All Alty fans who knew dad will be very welcome, both at the service and afterwards for drinks/snacks. We would be sincerely delighted to see any of you that would like to come along.

Altrincham FC First Team / John Murray RIP
« on: August 29, 2009, 09:08:46 AM »
For those of you who knew him, John Murray (our dad) passed away at 6.55am today, having suffered for the past 2 years with an aggressive form of dementia.
Dad followed Alty for the last 40 years and, even with his health problems over the last year or so, continued to be a regular at home and away games.
He will be sadly missed by many - let's hope Alty win at Kiddy today for dad!!!!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Ashamed to be an Alty fan
« on: September 20, 2008, 08:40:12 PM »
Having returned to the Midlands after todays game, I feel ashamed after today for the following reasons.
1. The abuse aimed at GH was totally out of order. Whatever side of the fence you stand on whether he shoud resign or not, GH has earned the right not to be abused in that way. I do not condone his reaction at all - he can be his own worst enemy, and his reaction was equally out of order. However, that side of him has been there since he played for Alty, and we cannot suddenly claim surprise at it.
2. Whilst making my way out of the ground, I witnessed 2 Alty fans hurling horrendous abuse at Dennis Birch, presumably because he had voiced his opinion about not abusing GH. We all know Dennis, and the way he is, but he does not deserve to be abused in that way by supposedly fellow Alty fans.
3. When I attempted to point out to the 2 fellow fans above that they should not abuse Dennis in that way, they started to hurl the type of abuse my way which I really could do without my 7 year old son witnessing. One was desperately trying to have a fight with me and, when I pointed out to him that we had the same red & white shirt on, he tried to pick a fight with my 13 year old nephew.
I think a large number of people at the game today need to take a good, long look at themselves, and I do include GH in that for the way he reacted.

There has been much written about this in the last few days, but this last post by Ecky sums it all up as far as I am concerned. The only bit he forgot was the fact that supporters had given up their Saturday mornings to make the ground look neat and tidy, only for these morons to come posting their out of date stickers all over the ground.

I do not disagree that, ultimately, results/tactics/formations will result in GH having to go, but the time is far too early to be talking of such things. If we got relegated to Conference North, and a few months ago we all thought we had been, it would not be a complete disaster (in my eyes), and noone was calling for GH's head back then as far as I can remember. As far as, beyond that, being relegated furtheris concerned, I think GH would be gone long before that came about if we were in that position, but we are not. We are where we expected to be - in the relegation scrap. We have, at times (Oxford at home, Aldershot at home) shown enough to suggest that we can get out of it. At other times (Woking away especially)we have looked like we have no idea how to get out of it. But that is the way it has been supporting Alty for as long as I can remember.
Like it or not, we are punching above our weight in this league. It is no good calling me daft, or anything else, as this is just a fact.
I am ever so sorry to have miscalculated the points Leon, but the point I am trying to make remains the same.

It really is time for a reality check. Who would come in and do a better job than GH with the lack of money available? We are a part time team in a full time league. Before the Cambridge game, we only have 1 less point from the 9 games than we had from the corresponding 9 games last season. We did not win any of those 9 corresponding fixtures last season. This just goes to show what a tough start to the season we have had. I still, strongly, believe that we will get our first win on Saturday, and things will start to roll from there.
Whatever happens, GH has earned the right, in my opinion, to see us through this tricky spell and he will do. Any change would be a backward step and would see the club much worse off. Why do we have such short memories at Alty? Look at where we were 5 years ago, and what we have been through, and it is a miracle that we are still here at all, let alone punching above our weight in the Conference National.
