Great signing! Could be just what we've needed.
Welcome to Alty, Marcus 🤗
-
Welcome Marcus, Good Luck
-
Good luck and welcome
-
Decent record at Matlock and Telford, a bit of a strange spell with Chesterfield and Stevenage.
Lets hope he lifts the curse.
-
Please be the answer to our prayers and make yourself a hero. Welcome to the club. Rooting for you.
-
Another promising signing on the face of it.
Welcome and good luck.

A record of 0.88 goals per game! https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=104289

Welcome Marcus!!
29 of his 31 goals were scored in Conference North. He still has to prove himself at this level. Hopefully he will.

He scored plenty for Matlock as well.
Asante showed after scoring for fun in North he could. Make step up (once with Solihull and once with Chesterfield after a strong start with Gloucester).
Goal scoring is mostly about confidence.

A thousand welcomes.

16 goals in zero appearances for Telford, which is a bloody miracle. Fair play to the lad.
-
Been around a bit too much for my liking. Never really settled...hope I'm wrong
-
Welcome Marcus... to the Alty family...
Hope you settle in & score loads of goals for us...
Give 100% & the fans will always support you...
Good Luck...
COYR!

Maybe a song based on oasis don’t look back in anger?
-
Good luck to him wonder if we will still be looking to bring another striker in even if Tom Peers stays
-
I think if another striker comes in, Tom will be going.
If we're thinning out the squad to make room for signings, and lads like Simon Richman are going, that's probable.
If he stays it'll most likely be because it's not saving much on the budget imho.

how do you score 0.88 of a goal??????
lol

I think more competition will always be encouraged under Phil and Neil, look at our roster of wingers. We were due to start the 20/21 season with Hulme, Clayton and Peers. Obviously two of those players moved on for different reasons, but the set up was there.

0.88 of a goal would be a decent return when you consider a few strikers we've had the misfortune of seeing in red and white of late.

Looking like Dinanga is the main man we're going with up top this season listening to the Q&A last night.
Let's just hope it's an inspired signing.
I still think I'd feel more comfortable with another top striker in the squad as Fisayo and Tom were not the permanent answer as a starting number nine.
I'm not even sure whether they are still with us as the squad numbers have not yet been released.
-
Tom Peers is contracted to the club until the end of next season, isn't he? I don't know about Fis.

Thanks for reminding me about Tom, PCCP! 😉
In my view, he'll probably be making most of his appearances after the hour mark as an 'impact'.
As for Fisayo, I'm sure the management will be looking at him and hopefully some trialists before deciding on who to offer a contract to.
My hope is that we can pick up a decent target man option in his place.
-
Dinanga, I can't comment on. There are lads who have been overlooked by bigger clubs, who have come in and done a good job، so who knows?
Neither Fis nor Peers are the answer to our problems. Whatever the management say, our strikers last year were woeful, so here's to hoping they manage to unearth a real gem before the start of the season...or it could be a long one.
-
I do believe that Peers offers value as an impact sub, and I would guess he doesn't take a huge chunk out of the budget? Unless Fis was playing within himself previously, I didn't see anything to suggest we should keep him.
I think we'll sign another striker.
-
up front is a concern but the centre of midfield is a priority i would think .

In the Q&A it sounded like Parkie might have a quality replacement in mind.
-
See Fisayo has not got a squad number and Richie Sutton has. There's two questions answered.
-
Surprised at about 5 of the squad, 2 in a good 3 not so
What's happened with Kirby?
-
What's happened with Kirby?
According to John Laidlar site, as he was on loan, he's probably gone back to his parent club Accrington.

Signed a contract with Harrogate - not surprised really.

and one.

Accrington was Ogle, Kirby was from Harrogate
-
I liked Kirby and wouldn't be surprised to see him back.

Seconded, I wouldn't have minded Ogle signing but not devastated not to either, given the options we have there (given Senior has signed on, and hopefully Connor will have a slightly less injury-hampered season as he's been great).
If I had to pick one loanee from last season it would definitely be Kirby, to be Moult's 'legs' in midfield - even moreso given the loss of Ali Smith - so I'm hoping we're the club in question.

-
I'd love him to sign
-
I can't help but feel that we will require a better quality of player than Kirby to replace Smith if we are to have any chance of not becoming embroiled in a struggle to avoid relegation.
-
Personally, I don't see Kirby as a replacement for Smith. I see him.more as a defensive midfielder.
-
Personally we need better than Ogle and Kirby.
Losing Smith is a killer.
-
If we don't replace Smith adequately, and get another striker in, I've got a sneaky feeling it's going to be a very difficult season.
I'm not a genius and if I can see that I'm confident the management team can too.
I'm convinced they know what we need and are doing all they can to find solutions.

Very much agree. Also a tad concerned about the LB position.

Yes LB is a bit of a problem area but I think if we can get the two reinforcements, our additional threat will take some of the pressure off the defence and we should be ok with the players we have at our disposal for this season.
If we can stay up, next close season will be a critical one for bringing in quite a few upgrades.
-
There is one ready made replacement for Smith: Kosylo!
We have a decent array of forward line players, so could we put Kos into centre mid?
Discuss!
-
I love him, but his frequency of bookings would skyrocket!

Hancock the more suitable candidate. Strong, positionally aware and super fit.

I actually quite strongly disagree with this - I love Hancock but there were a number of times last season that we seemed to lack a bit of presence in there, and he seemed to be a bit missing in action.
At this level, I feel that Kosylo's tenacity is a better ticket - and unless my mind was playing tricks on me, our results improved at the end of the season with Kosylo playing more central and Hancock up front.
-
No, Kosylo is the best option we currently have but he'd need to rein it in a bit to avoid spending time on the sidelines. Whether this would affect his effectiveness is uncertain but imho likely.
He could certainly fill in there if our new starter there gets injured😎😉
-
No one at the club gets near to what Smith did in that position
-

I 100% agree with you RS. That's why I'm hoping PP's got something up his sleeve.
-
I'm going to add a bit of optimism...
This time last year, our four best players last season weren't even on our books.
There will be people out there.

1 of our worst 4 is. And not my mate Tom.
We're also not going to retain at least 1 of the 4, a 2nd will likely go, the 3rd has signed but I wonder if there's an EFL clause which if he keeps up next season we'll lose quite quickly.

Indeed, but remember Jordan Hulme would have been far less effective without his - shall we say - adrenalin.
If only he could reach a happy medium (Not Doris Stokes!)

Agreed, I don't see his aggression as too much of a bad thing at all - we have alternative options for his position when he's not available.
-
His aggression is not a bad thing but in ali's position it's much more tackling etc and so more chances for bookings with no cover should the worst happen.
-
It's just that Alistair managed to run midfield without any hint of aggression. I can see Kosy picking up too many cards. I hope I'm wrong. If nothing else it brings disruption to the team.

Exactly! 😉
-
Ali had quite a unique style for this level; most clubs don't have a player like him and don't necessarily need him either.
For all his excellence for us, he wasn't the finished article (his style could land us in trouble when occasionally mugged of possession) and I firmly believe he is replaceable - it just won't be on a like-for-like basis as that would be impossible.
Rochdale have a great released players thread which they're filling in as they go with where each player is heading: https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/rochdale/forum/272022/released-players-thread/#240
Looking at Harrogate, I believe Ed Francis is local (former City U18 captain from Poynton) and seems to be mates with Kirby on social media, left footed DM who can cover at CB and LB...
-
Just out of interest, who would be on everyone's shopping list - players that you think would be feasible?
I'm always interested to hear about players I might not know so much about myself that others rate.

In other news, James Hardy scored for Chester today.
