From the official site:

"Tony Hemmings turned out for Gresley Rovers and Karl Munroe played for Droylsden."

He must be in his forties by now, surely? He was getting on a bit when he played for us!

And maybe his age might be a reason for him playing for Gresley Rovers, because I have honestly never heard of them

We played them once, must've been the Trophy?

An up and coming team some years back but it didn't happen.

I remember venturing to Gresley Rovers for an FA Trophy tie in early 1997.

Paul Futcher was their manager at the time and I think that we were 2-0 down quite early on but a late Ricky Harris goal eventually secured us a 3-3 draw.

If I remember correctly the coach got lost and the pitch was on the side of a mountain. We got there late, just in time to see the mercurial danny mcgoona miss a sitter.

I think they have a new ground now??

That's right...& I think Bomber got the only goal in the replay.Gary Birtles was Futcher's assistant.

I think Simon Garner (ex Blackburn) was up front for them and was a right handful.

Ballers,

It was Andy Garner, the former Derby County and Blackpool striker.

I seem to recall him scoring via a volley from circa 30 yards that dipped over the head of Matt Dickins...?

I loved Gresley's Moat Ground. It was like something from a previous era............woeful but brilliant!!!!!The pitch had a number of slopes on it & it was very tightly enclosed, which made for an excellent if intimidating atmosphere. They used to get very good crowds & in the mid to late nineties they did really well in the Dr.Martens League & F.A Vase...they definitely got to Wembley & may have won it!!

I used to listen to Radio Derby a lot in those days as I could pick it up from Birmingham, where I used to travel to home games from,& their non-league coverage was excellent.Gresley were better than Burton Albion at that time!

A strange ground and crowd really - barbour jacket and 4x4s mixed in with old miners. How else would you explain the chilli & coriander infused faggots with Darren Heesom being barracked as a 'paki bastard'
