Tony Sanders: time for him to be honoured at Moss Lane
« on: December 11, 2011, 11:54:57 PM »

The sad news regarding the death of the former Alty manager, Roy Rees, prompts me to reflect on his one-time assistant at Moss Lane, Tony Sanders, and his subsequent momentous achievements during his tenure as the manager of Altrincham FC from 1976 to 1984.

I suspect that Tony Sanders is a very private, humble and unassuming man but wouldn't it be rather splendid to honour him in some way at Moss Lane and see him return for a special occasion/event as part of a tribute to his contribution to the football club?

Any thoughts/suggestions?

I second that e-motion.

Maybe invite him as guest of honour and do an on the pitch presentation and make him honorary VP or something....is there an aniversary of some big win coming up to coincide?

perhaps the club could have a display board in the NWS. you know the big wooden type with gold font. one listing club captains and one for club managers with their respective dates?

I have always wondered why there seems to be so little acknowledgement of Tony Sanders at the club. For someone who did so much for us, he almost seems to be persona non grata. I wondered if something had happened behind the scenes that caused him to be airbrushed from our history. I hope not - let's get him honoured before it's too late. He must be in his 80's now?
