Some posters on here have been wondering how this season's results compare to our league position at this stage last season, so here's an extract from my article in last Saturday's programme comparing this season to last season after 22 league games:
At present, we have played 22 league games, winning five; drawing seven and losing ten, thereby accumulating 22 points.
After 22 league matches last season, we had both exactly the same record and total of points.
An improvement this season is that we are scoring more goals (24 to date as opposed to only 15 at this point last season).
Meanwhile, the goals against total currently stands at 35, which is exactly the same as at this stage last year. That latter statistic may well come as a surprise to those of us who had perceived our defence to be a stronger unit this season!
At this juncture last season, we had managed to record an away win and had picked up a total of seven points on our travels from twelve games.
Alas, this season, that coveted away victory continues to elude us and we have only collected five points out of a possible 33 so far.
In terms of corresponding league positions, last season we were 17th out of 22 teams and at present we lie in 21st place out of a total of 24 teams.
As always with statistics, read into all that what you will!

Superb stats Mr Cult sir.
You neglect to add this season we have 2 easier fixtures than last year in that we play the slime twice.
I am amazed at the goals against following last season's consistent 5-1 drubbings.

I've been wondering how we have done against last season as I've had the impression we have done better this season particulraly against certain teams but it does appear we are exactly the same results wise....my perception has been altered by if we lose 1-0 it feels so much better than 5-1;

However you have to consider that to some degree we were an unknown last season, teams didn't really know what they were expecting. I also got the impression that many sides underestimated what we could do at home (for the first 2/3s of the season), allowing us to get some results we probably shouldn't have i.e. Morecambe, possibly.
Although the table above is a good effort, it isn't really a fair reflection of our fortunes as it doesn't only compare away games with away games etc... Given the discrepancy between our home and away form this can make quite a difference!

Constructive comment!
Why are we not a better side? Apart from Dagenham have we have at least been in the games we have lost, unlike last year were we were loosing 4 or 5 nil's away. now we are unlucky to lose 1-0 to York and got a 2-2 at Cambridge.
Unless the rest of the league all got worse.............

I think its a different sentiment this year. The past three seasons have been really eventful; to get in Conference North, to get in the Conference, and I think last season was a novelty of sorts. A very different Conference from the one we last played in.
But we survived and some of the novelty has worn off a bit I think. I always had a feeling this year would be harder, but we do have a better side. We're not getting stuffed out of sight like we were but, as Jimmy says, we aren't as much as an unknown quantity. We used that to our advantage last season, but its not there this time. That's the difference.
We are a better side, but other teams know more about us.

we've got a better squad but only 11 can play (at one time).
