The season must be extended
« on: January 06, 2010, 07:00:46 PM »

I Bet the next full bsp programme isnt until jan 16th at the very earliest, theyve got to take action sooner rather than later and extend the season by at least a fortnight, theres no tv company to pull the strings and no one in this league is playing in the world cup.

We could just decide the league by having an end of season round robin tournament to be played at Old Trafford.

Agree with this, they have to make an exception, or fixture congestion could get silly.

That's the next scheduled full BSP programme anyway so it's a fairly safe bet!   :D

Like the man said the play off final at Wembley precludes the extension of the season.

At the moment we have 11 empty Tuesday dates to fill our backlog of 4 (or possibly 7) games that need to be re-arranged. Ideally we could do with the season extended by a week and have Wrexham on a Saturday to maximise revenue, however with the track record of this league, they won’t make such a bold decision. if we do well in the trophy, ie beat Wimbledon and another team, then we will be in serious trouble.

Moving the playoff final would be a non-starter, as im sure wembley will be in use (other playoff finals). However the semis could be pushed back a week to 2/3 may and 9/10 may.

It looks like playing twice a week for the rest of the season. In addition to man ure reserves, and other commitments, im sure everyone at the club will be very busy....

why?

Can't they postpone the final? Even if it means changing venue, surely it can be done. It's not like they haven't got 5 months to sort it out!

one-off semis on 8/9 May, final can stay where it is. Isn't that a fair amount of time gained?

Or just decide things on a penalty shootout.

We've had very bad luck with the number of postponements, but let's just give over moaning and get on with it. We'll have to play almost every Tuesday - not ideal, but we'll live. Can't help but think footballers are mollycoddled. If I was getting money to play football twice weekly I'd be very happy thanks very much.

Thankfully we've had a good start to the season so should stay well clear of relegation, even if we suffer some poor results due to tiredness.

The one saving grace about all this is that, now the fixture problem has now become country wide and not just isolated to a specific area.

ALL clubs will be in the same position with regards to fixture pile-ups.

Just a thought, but what "other commitments" could United's reserve team have? Book signings? Doing a bit of bar work on the side?

Seriously though, our excellent pitch is going to be tested thoroughly in the coming weeks/months.

Believe or not they cound't field a team due to injury's in the squad as most the reserve played in the last carling cup match so hence there match on the thursday postponed.
