Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Torquay
« on: February 03, 2008, 04:23:27 AM »
So Torquay are through to the Trophy quarter-finals, which are being played on Feb 23rd.

I've mentioned this a couple of times before but I think this means that, if their q-f ends in a draw, our match with them on the 26th would have to be re-arranged yet again to make way for a replay.

It's pretty tough on our players and fans if we're only going to know whether we're definitely going to Torquay three days beforehand.

I think from the player's point of view you just prepare for it and if it's off, it's off. It will be played at some point so it's not worth worrying about.

However, from the supporter's point of view it could cause a fair bit of inconvenience but these things happen.

but surely its the same for a player who has a part-time job and has to book the day off to travel down to torquay on a tuesday night, as it is for a fan travelling down?

It's obvious I know, but we realy need to BEAT Droylsden AND Farsley as I believe Vics will get more points than us between now and the seasons end, so we need a good head start over them. Weymouth need to be well and truly dragged into it, sooner rather than later, so the next two games are vital.

I agree, i think vics will survive

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Has Altincham got a better famous fan?
« on: February 03, 2008, 03:14:41 AM »
The statto hating got a bit out of hand. He doesnt owe the club anything and never did so some of the abuse was a bit harsh. He never did anything to help the club though unless it was around a big game which suggested his ego was the main benefactor.

He also sponsored an alty game which was nice. Shame it was Bradford PA away and they got the cash. This was his biggest crime for me. I wouldnt heckle him too much myself but when people remind me he's an alty fan I remind them he's a bit of a tit!

What people need to remember is that when we're on tv the television company look for famous links and hunt them down, its not like they go to the tv station and say 'im an alty fan, get me out of here'. It wouldnt suprise me with paper mache head though!

The guy supports united, but when he was on a popular prime time tv programme he prommoted alty. I don't understand people's problem with that. As Narcissist said, he ows alty nothing.

Glad Geoff and the board have Backed GH and quite rightly disapline matters are kept in house, how would you like it if you were disaplined at work then to see it all over the press etc.

If I launched into an unprovoked rant against a paying customer, during which I told them to "Piss off", I doubt very much that my boss would say that he was 100% behind me and I could keep my job next year no matter how much I was underperforming.

YAAAAAAAAWWWWNNNNNN

Of course it would be sad to lose the derbies, but on a selfish note if they do get wound up Farsley and York lose the three points they got against Vics and we are out of the relegation zone!

Whatever we think of the recent comments from the club the Goodwin / Peake karma rating is a good reminder that despite the odd remark we may not agree with on the whole we have a club board and management we wouldn't swap for many (any?) others in the conference.

Another thread someone mentions Goodwin and Connett in the same breath - that really is going far far too far.

Come on Alty - A win for my birthday would be great on Saturday!

Totally agree, geoff's made one comment that has obviously upset a few, but lets remember just how much we owe him.

Just been looking at the results from the games last season that we have played this season. Apart from the obvious anomoly of Cambridge who are title contenders this season and a team most of us would not expext to beat, we only got three draws and a win from the rest of these games. And again, the team we beat, grays, are a better team this season. We've had a tough start, only played 3 teams in the bottom half so far, and the season really starts on saturday. If we can get a few wins in the next few games we will make up ground on others who will lose points as they play the bigger teams. Keep faith and get behind the lads on saturday.

I have said on other threads that Peter gave good service to Alty,he has moved on lets just wish him luck back at Hyde and leave it at that. Those people who start having a go at him or his wife are only making themselves look silly.

A cracker!

Basically said that Boston agreed they couldn't compete in the league and confirmed that they wouldn't be appealing against the decision so we're definitely in. Also said it "frustrates the hell out of him" that relegation isn't sorted out on the pitch. Said that Altrincham live a "charmed life" aftre the last two seasons escapes

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Little & O'Neill re-sign
« on: May 11, 2007, 03:06:32 AM »
My main reservation about Joe O'Neill is that he is simply not a natural goalscorer.
He only managed 8 goals in 45 games last season.

I know that we will be playing at a lower level but I really don't see him scoring 20 goals next season and, therefore, the goalscoring responsibility will once again rest on Colin Little's shoulders.

every time this is raised i say this, joe is not a striker he is a forward, he makes the chances and chips in the odd few, but please bear in mind he only got 5 less than colin little and was our second highest goalscorer cult... if rotherham were interested then it just shows his qualities shined through from the side of his game we need, holding up the ball laying and it off for others.

dont worry, if we signed ronaldo and henry cult would still complain about proneness to injuries or sponsorship from the wrong boot company  ;)
this is great news, lets hope the rest follow suit
