Title: 12/1
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on June 11, 2013, 11:16:40 PM
Best odds on us at the minute, with bet victor, if you set an account up they are currently giving you a free bet, I put a tenner in my newly opened account and they gave me a free ten quid bet also.I think 12/1 is as good as you'll get prior to the start of the season.

I think 12s is the best it will get until the season kicks off, I wouldn't be surprised if it drops over the next couple of days, especially when the more clued up bookies start putting their prices up.I'd jump on it now, especially with bet victor giving you a free bet for joining at the moment.

ok sensible now, 12/1 is good but i honestly dont think we will win the league, but we will be closer than last season.

Would you get paid out of we went up via play offs?

They've also got County as joint favourites even though they've only signed four players

At the risk of a whoosh, could I just say that odds until early in the season are as much a reflection of money laid as prospects of the teams. If everyone on here put a tenner on Alty, our odds would shorten dramatically! (not that I'm suggesting it)

At 12s we're a decent e/w shot.

I think we have a better than 25% of finishing in the top 3.

Only if you've backed us each way. I agree with Jimmy Hill that 12/1 each way is where the smart money should go.

Boston at 50/1 is the third most popular bet behind Telford and Stockport according to Oddschecker.

Boston do have a lot of fans but they'll finish nearer bottom than top.

We're down to 10/1 with bet victor now, and down to 9s with a couple of others, and been backed into 5th favourite

Bookies know little of the Conference North in terms of squads etc.

They just look at last seasons finishing places and then wait for the money to come in and shorten odds to protect themselves, so the favourite is normally the club with the biggest fanbase.

But not actually the case if you compare fanbase to odds at the moment

Last season the favourites won it and second favourites went up via playoffs

Indeed, biggest fanbase and second biggest.

There is some science in in of course (like how they have Worcester at 80/1) but not a lot I wouldn't say.

I think Telford are favourites as people who know a bit as well as Telford fans have piled in, otherwise Stockport would be (even though on squad quality they shouldn't be).

Fair point as north feriby have got long odds despite making quality signings but bookies get more right then wrong even at this level

At those odds I think Guiseley with Hills at 14/1 are a cracking value bet if you back them e/w.

Normally your spot on but guiseley have lost good players and will not make playoffs and the high odds on them suggest the bookies do know enough about this league in my opinion
Title: Re: 12/1

I think weight of money being placed on the others has been the reason guiseleys odds have lengthened, looks like a reasonable amount of money was placed on us in the week between the 1st and the 8th July. It would only take one fairly big bet on any of the sides near the top of that list to get the bookies jungle drums beating

In all cases it's to do with short odds to cover big bets that's why England have short odds in major tournaments when in reality they have little chance of winning

Up to 3rd favourites now, time to put your money on whilst still reasonably priced, the market on promotion (as opposed to champions) has opened now also, we are 5/1 for promotion, best price for champions 10/1
