Altrincham FC First Team / Re: solid draw
« on: February 14, 2015, 10:18:30 PM »
We were excellent today. Played some lovely football at times. We were worth three points, even though I'd have taken the draw before we kicked off. Clee was excellent, but yet again the outstanding player for me was Tom Marshall. Credit too to Simon Richman who must have run miles !

My MotM, put a hell of a shift in winning the ball and making the simple pass.

Barring Bath, I don't feel we've missed Cavangh too much, which says how well we've been playing of late. If we could finish in the top half it would be a great achievement. Let's keep pushing on.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Your worst ALTY XI
« on: February 03, 2015, 05:44:33 PM »
Some notably dreadful players would be:

GK:  Wayne Baker, Nick Stephens

Defenders:  Dave Swannick, Greg Challender

Midfield:  Brian Croft, Steve Carroll,

Attack:  Chris Young, Michael Twiss,

Few there from the dark Unibond days of early 2000's. Was that team of 2002/3 arguably the worst Altrincham side ever? In terms of league placing I think it is.

GK: Coburn
RB: Densmore
CB: Ellender
CB: Maddox
LB: D Adams
RM: Potts
CM: Carmody
CM: Hussin
LM: Sharrat
ST: Little
ST: Reeves

Bench: Collings, Timmons, Watmore, Green, Owen

It gets harder the older you get to pick these, as there's a few I would had liked in there too but been forced out (Hardy, Russell pre signing, Ellison and Thornley to name a few)

Although I was only 2 at the time, I got the impression the Liverpool side of the 80's was the Barcelona of it's time (although the 88 side couldn't play in European Cup, if they could I would had thought they'd be one of the favorites?). So the equivalent would be Eibar (currently 8th in La Liga) beating Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey Final.

Interim manager while John Gregory is off sick after heart surgery. I think it went quietly under the radar, as first I saw of Saunders there was when he asked about bringing players in.

I couldn't make 7th anyway,but will bizarrely go on a Tuesday night,if for anything it's randomness

Whilst it isn't right to be getting knocked out to lower league opposition, I think people keep forgetting we haven't lost every game. Beaten Barwell, beaten Leek in the cup.

I've said to other people, at least yesterday we applied ourselves correctly in that we didn't do a Trafford/Blyth and expected to turn up and win. At half time I was satisfied as we looked to be in control of the game without creating much. It baffled me then that after Griffin and Clee had the better of the right back in the 1st half, that we decided 2nd half to play it on the right!!

Disappointed yes. Gutted yes. But I think if someone said to you at start of the season that you'd be comfortable mid-table,1st round of the Cup and last 16 of Trophy you'd take it.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Today's Altrincham FC trivia question
« on: January 23, 2015, 09:20:41 PM »
I remember on our last visit (5 years ago) we were talking about Stuart being past it before he pulled off a string of world class saves, including a full length dive very late in the game

Yes, had a look on their forum the other day, and a few mentioned that it was the best performance by any opposing keeper at Twerton Park. I forgot about how good he was that day.

What a waste of time that was. I'd like to have known that we'd be playing the entire reserve team tonight so I could have decided not to go. The lads won the first 20 mins 0-0 and it looked like they they were going to rip Flixton apart, but then skill and enthusiasm was no match for stamina. As soon as the legs went the other lot had time and space and Brian Somerville looked like Cristiano Ronaldo.

Didn't you read the main site?

Also we played mostly youth players against Tranmere in the semi finals last year

And in the final the year before?
Not actually the case - this was the first time we put a total reserve/youth team out - none of the 16 man squad have played for the first team this season

Think the one in question is the 2011 final, where was just Twiss and Summerskill from the 1st team who played, the rest was youth.

Didn't disgrace themselves and they will have learnt a lot from tonight. Shame we couldn't get on the scoresheet.

We said on the way back, you'd like to take Jim Rushe to one side and say 'Really? What are you or anyone getting out of this?'. So depressing to see 2 Northwich fans!!

Personally, I don't think much wrong with it. We could actually get the winner of the tie in the draw tomorrow, so if someone like Tolson is at Curzon and not Flixton is that wrong??

For the record I will be there on Tuesday as I like going to an Alty match where I'm not worried if win or lose (although ideally I'd like to win) and I've never been to Valley Road,so tick off another ground.

Think the update on the website answers the question.

2 things stand out for me there;

He dismisses that it was a bad day at the office, but weren't right in the final 1/3. With the forwards they have, I would say those forwards had a bad day at the office.

The point his side have played 5 games in 15 days. We have also played 5 games in 15 days, so that excuse won't work.

We fully deserved that today, battled well and limited them to few chances. Great goal from Dens

Altrincham FC First Team / Kidderminster Pitch
« on: January 03, 2015, 05:27:23 PM »
Looks like they have a similar problem Harrogate had a couple of seasons ago. Let's hope we are able to overcome a pitch issue and able to play like we did the other day.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: What a game !
« on: January 01, 2015, 08:51:36 PM »
The only criticisms you could make today is Stu could had got a stronger hand on the free kick (although I didn't have a great view of it), and we could have had more than 4 to bolster the goal difference. But it was great to see us play like that after the frustration of Nuneaton. We can go to Eastleigh with confidence and who knows, we've done weirder things before than end a teams unbeaten home record.

From what I heard at the game;

Police said the fence could not be moved due to H&S
It appeared to be police who decided and had final say on opening the section of the Pop Side for Chester fans.

Just what I heard, so not official.
