Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Not looking good
« on: March 05, 2016, 11:12:14 PM »
Today we played ok, a game of few chances, could had nicked it but heyho.

Do I think we'll stay up? Absolutely. We require 5 wins from 12 games. We do appear to be a confidence side, which is why I think if we get the 1 win we will get a few in an unbeaten run. We still have key games (Southport at home, Kidderminster, Halifax and Torquay away). Positive results in these games will see us through. Then if we stay up, we regroup and ensure we don't have the same again. Lessons have to be learned from this season.

I still look back to a 1-0 win against Runcorn on the last day of 2003/04 season to secure our place in Conference North. Had we not won that game, I don't think we'd be where we are now.

Notable mentions, other than games where we won something/play offs
Nuneaton and Lancaster in the FA Cup 2001
2-1 win at Bradford in 2005
3-0 Northwich 2006
In reference to the Weymouth game where we won our first away game, didn't we then win another 2 away games on the bounce at Stevenage and Morecambe??

Remember that Heathcote played well against Barnsley when he came on for Luca, and at Bromley against the leagues top scorer, he has nothing to fear. It's not ideal, but I think we can cope. I've said since the draw happened we'd get a score draw and hopefully finish them off at Moss Lane week before Christmas, and I'm not changing my mind now.

Another odd loan I saw was Liam Hearn from Lincoln to Barrow, with the player saying needed to 'maximise game time'. He's played 18 times this season, not as if being frozen out??

Someone spoke to Ryan while he was doing his warm down stretches, and said this was the first time since he's been here that he's been fully fit.

For me Clee shouldn't be included in the squad until 100% fit. The temptation to bring him on from the bench, even as impact, could lead to him being out for longer (ala Densmore), and given his situation so far this season, I think we just need to get him fully up to speed before he kicks a ball in anger.

The only unfortunate thing is it will probably mean putting a square peg in a round hole on the wing, either Lawrie or Richman there.

I'll be shocked if we're not a highlights game on MOTD along with Maidstone v Yeovil.
985

I need a bit of help here. I've re-read the following link a number of times. I can't see any mention that there's going to be any ties shown on MOTD on Saturday night what with all this new coverage.

http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/34657302

This makes a difference to the Sunday 2pm possibility. By my reckoning there are now currently 22 outstanding ties featuring non leafue sides.

9 where the non league team is at home to a league side and 8 vice versa with 5 ties where both sides are non league.

Now even assuming that all 8 Sunday are from the 9 home ones it leaves a fixture on Saturday. So would they want one like ours for sat MOTD or leave it entirely?

Being totally speculative,  they will be doing a football focus live from one of the Saturday match venues. That indicates there will be an outside broadcast unit of sorts, and a better standard of coverage as opposed to just a camera showing the goals. So that could in theory be on motd as highlights.

Or I could just be talking bollocks...

And given BBC Sport close proximity to Moss Lane, Football Focus could well be at ours.

The Chester game could make or break our season. Win it, and I think we will see some new faces. Lose, and I think we'll be stuck with what we've got unless someone comes in form lower down the leagues.

We do have a chunk of our budget taken away long-term (Coburn, Marshall and Griffiths). Last night we also missed Densmore, Griffin, Richman, Crowther and Parry. Then we had Clee and Rankine who weren't 100% fit. Out of those 10 players, I'd say 6 of them are 1st choice. Taking away half of any teams 1st choice XI and they will be weaker, regardless of how big or small the squad is.

Whilst a win is what we were after, a draw stopped the rot and 2 poor performances and results, and a last minute salvage could provide a physiological boost to the lads who were being questioned about team morale. Judging by the celebration of the goal, morale may be on the up.

Surely, anything other than a home win over a team who have gone 21 consecutive matches without recording a league victory is unthinkable, even by our altruistic standards....?

Didn't we go away to a Lewes side who hadn't won in 24 games, and gave them a 2-0 victory??

God knows what will happen. A deja vu feeling of is being consistently inconsistent, after a couple of bad results comes a couple of great results

Positives from tonight:

Reeves looking back to himself again. Great header for the goal
Some people will still say he was a disgrace, but I thought Sinnott was our most creative player tonight

Struggling after that. Regroup and get something at Aldershot

That was the most lack lustre performance I have seen at Altrincham , the whole team seemed drained , no energy and no sense of direction , the only heartening things I could see was the anger in some of the players leather, luca, richman and reeves seemed to be the only guys getting upset about what was going on , the set piece takers are shocking ... there's no point naming names on the one we all know who , tactically lee had to try something different because they found us out after 10 mins and once dens went of injured we were screwed going forward because we had no one doing any decent deliveries into the box but the TEAM played so bad no tactics would have helped us.

Last part of the rant is deasey banned from kicking the ball again after ten mins they seemed to have cottoned on and we were under pressure every time he had the ball , what gives ?  I know everyone has there own interpretation of the game and this is mine COMPLETLY WANK and can romeo48 put this team performance in the knobsock of the year vote because this is where it belongs.

This. It gets filed away in the 'everyone had a bad day at the office'. If you rated the team, there would be a couple of 6's and the rest 5 and 4. No point blaming the scapegoat/s today, everyone was at fault for that today. Let's hope we can bounce back in a similar way we did to the Welling game.

I think people need a reality check here. Yes, maybe the club in hindsight could had done more. However, when our limited resources are stretched with CSH, looking at other ground improvements and keeping a competitive squad in this league, could we really do much else except take the word of a 'professional' footballer. Professional is a key word there, as he has been anything but professional. Also remember that 99% of the players we've signed in the 20 years I've been watching are decent, honest people. Why would the club think any different with him?

Personally, I was happy we signed him as I thought if he had the fitness would be the sort of player we needed, getting stuck in and take the game by the scruff of the neck. Instead, he has left us with it being even more critical we get a decent cup run this season.

It was one of them games where we didn't do much wrong, but have to hold hands up and say they were better side. They set off like a train, and the 1st and 3rd goals came immediately after our best spells of the game. When Lawrie missed that 1 on 1, you could tell wouldn't be our day (when I say miss, I'm not talking Gillespie level, just on another day that goes in). Badly missed Richmans energy, so hopefully him not being involved today when he had a chance is to save him for 2 home games where we will feel can win them both.

Was good to see Reeves looking like himself again. Don't think he's been great the last few times he's come on from the bench, but today looked hungry for the ball and unlucky not to get a goal at the end. And also Luca look so assured when he came on.

What is so frustrating is that man for man, this team should be able to play 4-4-2. For some reason, they can't. Yes, very unfortunate that it shouldn't have been a penalty but a free kick, and the 1st goal was always going to be vital. But why was the player allowed to advance so far, and why did we ball watch for the 2nd goal. I had a feeling that Rankine would be on the bench, but replacing him with Reeves shouldn't be judged as a bad choice, but saying that I think he hasn't been the same Reeves since after the Guiseley game. Today he seemed to let the game pass him by.

So after today, watch us be weird again and get 7 points against 3 promotion contenders!!!

From my point of view, my own personal circumstances have changed over the summer (buying my 1st house being the main one), so I knew Woking and Dover were no go's. I'm still going to make as many away games as I can, but I know that the days of Dover on a Tuesday night won't be happening 😔
