The funniest chant coincidence of timing I can recall was at leigh at 2-0 up, while the alty fans were mid "2-0 to the altrincham" chant leigh scored on the 'm' of altrincham....there was absolutly no break as the chant simply continued "2-1 to the Altrincham". can't remeber if that was the actual chant, may have been the 'in your cup final'................

It was. Myself and Mrs Saughall were singing it too. It was a great example of mass consciousness that because we decided to change to chant without any prompting when the goal went in ... and everyone else did too.

Who says Alty fans don't sing from the same hymn sheet?

My favourite memory of that match was when we scored the second goal and an Alty fan, too excited to articulate, just kept shouting "F*** off, F*** off" to nobody in particular, just with sheer exuberance. Great  :) (Know this sounds mental having read it through, but I guess you had to be there!)

in there league they dont have forums as the only people watching them  are from across the roads stood in beer gardens.

We've got the Golf Road, they've got the Salt Factory. Nuff said.

Just a thought.

If we're fairly sure that not so many visiting fans will be here tomorrow, perhaps it's an opportunity to flog a few DVDs to them eh? *

*Forget it. Not many will be up for buying one if we get something out of the match!  :)

in the interests of justice there should be a mix of barrow and jester fans.  plus some from the rugby legue club he was involved in when he did his tax dodge.

That was Widnes wasn't it?

Whilst I agree with you 100%, I'd rather have points than visitors if I had to choose.

Saughall - Was that the Post Office side that played in the Altrincham and District Leagie in season 1967/8 and didnt win a game and withdrew from the league a few weeks before the season ended?  The two top teams in that League were St Hughes and Hayes Albion which included Frank Carrodus.
Two FIRST CLASS teams who could STAMP their authority on anyone.

Please continue........

It was GPO Telephones actually. When I put on a bit of weight, I became a wide reciever  ;D

No. We were based at the sports and social club in quay street, manchester (near the opera house) but played on Mellands fields nr Belle Vue (along with about 200 other teams! :D)

Same years (ish) though. Played 68/9 to 70/1 then switched to rugby union as we got wed pm off work every other week to train.  ;)

Last year played in feb attendance 958 away fans 110

I'm sure that was a saturday - it'll be much less for a midweek game

Yes, it was fun, wasn't it? having you hollies overshadowed each year and spending loads of euros on the hotel internet service!

On the whole, I think I prefer the worry over whether we'll finish top half or not! ;)

I'm saying nowt after Saturday!!!!

What I will say though is that unless Luton lose on tuesday, the prediction of 168 from Stevenage is wildly optimistic!

Realistically, I think we can expect less than half of that - especially since they've got Kiddie away on saturday with a much more plausible chance of winning the league there (or possibly the game after if we come up trumps on Wednesday)

I think he ended up at Burton and then in league 2 with them before going to mansfield.
Perhaps he thought he had a decent chance of full time league football then and didn't fancy the part-time game at alty.
After what he's been through, you never know, he just might relish the chance to be in the shop window again?

Of course it all depends on whether he's on contract beyond the end of the season where he is now - but what brought this to mind was Houldsworth saying he needed new forwards who could score goals after the home defeat to the wombles. Perhaps he doesn't rate him.

Out of left field so to speak, that Jon Shaw is still kicking his heels a bit at Mansfield. He's got a few ex-Halifax mates here, what about seeing if he's available? He got bags of experience and still only late 20's. Used to be a good target man AND goalscorer. That's the kind of player I'd like to see playing the holding role up front for us.

The Oxford fans that I travelled back on the trains with on Saturday said that this was their best performance in weeks.
I thought it was a very good game and maybe we deserved a point.

Must say (and I don't say it very often) I didn't think we were 'worth' a point - although I would have been grateful for it.
For me, the difference between the sides was a goal-poaching striker who scores 20+ a year.
This is something which has been discussed on other threads.

If we are going to get any higher in the league we're definitely going need one of these ... but this is the conundrum - how do we afford one?

More probably, can the management team unearth one for us?

It's such a pity that this team hasn't got a 32 year old Colin Little in it - we'd definitely be giving the play-offs a shot next year.
