Why doesn't Watmore start?... ...a theory:
« on: December 09, 2012, 10:21:22 AM »

I am as annoyed as a lot of other fans are that Duncan doesn't start every week.

He is a young lad with bags of energy and talent and fitness just can't be a factor for me, so he is being protected, but why?...

Here's a theory:
Steve Bruce (Hull City manager) came to the Burton replay with three of his back room staff, they sat in the row in front of me.  They came late and went early, so as not to attract too much attention.  The only player they could possibly have been there to watch was Duncan.

Lee lives in Hull, I believe, and is likely to be an aquaintance of Steve's and/or his back room staff.
If Lee & Alty were grooming Duncan to be sold to Hull, they would not want him to get injuryed or be too match weary.

Just a theory, no proof...

If we do sell Duncan, I hope we get a good deal, one that has future performance / appearance and sell-on clauses, etc...

Strange theory as we aren't going to sell him when he's not playing! I think its just down to poor management! He thought we'd win without Duncan starting! Unfortunately we need him, i would pay the 13 each week just to watch him play because he gives me the same buzz as playing! Keep finding myself disappointed, if we lose Duncan to another club then we want as much as possible so we need him playing to attract the right price! Would love to see him up front for 3 or 4 games for the whole 90 minutes, honestly think he would destroy centre backs with his runs!

The thought did cross my mind a few weeks ago that we need to keep Duncan injury free in case a good offer comes in.
I do feel annoyed that I am paying my £13 every week and the most exciting player we have had in years is stuck on the bench. I hope Lee leaves with more of a legacy than just being the manager who sold our best player!!

I don't think that is the reason at all but do know what you mean. He won't go anywhere if he is sat in the stand or they think he isn't good enough to start for Alty though.

He does normally start Duncan, on Saturday he picked a different team and that was the wrong decision.

That's not being wise after the event as it was said by most people before the game.  We made it hard for ourselves from the start.

Our wide and top class pitch is made for him.

If he was thinking of not burning the lad out then let him run and run for 60 mins and then bring him off.

My guess would be that Steve Bruce was there to watch Burton keeper Mark Oxley as he's on loan there from Hull.

Duncan has only started 13 of our 24 games this season (and one of those was in the CSC)

Ecky's point is still valid - Duncan was unavailable through injury for two games in September and sub for the next three, which was logical enough for a player coming back from an ankle injury, so the ratio becomes effectively 13 from 19. I also agree with his analysis of Saturday.

Can we put our non-football heads on for a minute? I think Duncan has just started a degree course (in Manchester, please correct me if I'm wrong) so if we take football out of the equation, his focus, and that of his parents, will be to get him a good education which will be the building block for anything he might do in later life, especially once his footballing days are over.

So I will be very surprised if he goes to any full-time club whilst his focus should be on his education - and at University that includes drinking and socialising too. So Alty should suit him down to the ground for the foreseeable future!

That doesn't answer the question of why he doesn't start which is probably down to Sinnott's p*ss poor substitution policy. Watmore could have torn Young to shreds from 3.01pm yesterday. The game could have been over by half time by which time Sinnott could have taken him off if he wanted to rest him. QED, Sinnout.

ok then

He started only one of the last four then, why is that?

Anyway 13 from 19 is hardly normally playing every game

I'm sorry.  I couldn't be arsed trawling for stats.  I just thought in games where he was available he started most of them.

He's started a couple less than I thought.  I've already said he should have started yesterday.
